Jeremiyah Love looks electric.
He tested like a superstar.
But Chiefs fans might want to pump the brakes.

Why Chiefs Fans Shouldn’t Fall for Jeremiyah Love Just Yet
Yes, the numbers are ridiculous.
- 6-foot, 212 pounds
- 4.36-second 40-yard dash
- 7.0 yards per touch in college
- 41 total touchdowns in three seasons
Jeremiyah Love didn’t just impress at the combine — he may have launched himself into the top tier of the entire draft.
And that’s exactly the problem for Kansas City.

The Reality: He’s Probably Gone
Todd McShay has Love ranked as his No. 1 overall prospect — something he’s never done with a running back in 26 years of covering the draft. Not Saquon Barkley. Not Bijan Robinson.
That’s how rare this evaluation is.
McShay even said it wouldn’t shock him if Love goes as high as No. 3 overall — and he doesn’t expect him to fall out of the top five.
The Chiefs are picking at No. 9.

The math doesn’t work.
Why Love’s Stock Is Skyrocketing
It’s not just the 4.36 speed.
It’s the versatility.
Over three seasons at Notre Dame:
- 6.7 yards per carry
- 9.4 yards per reception
- 63 catches for 594 yards
- 41 touchdowns
He’s not just a runner — he’s a legitimate route runner. That’s what has evaluators buzzing.

McShay pointed out his receiving ability as the separator — the trait that pushes him toward Jahmyr Gibbs territory.
And in today’s NFL, that skill set is gold.
The Draft Dominoes
General manager Brett Veach admitted something telling at the combine:
Unless you’re picking first, you can’t control the board. You have to let the dominoes fall.
And the Love domino appears set to fall early.
With quarterback Fernando Mendoza expected to go No. 1, and edge rushers likely to follow, teams like Arizona, Tennessee and the Giants all present realistic landing spots before Kansas City ever gets on the clock.
Even if the Chiefs love Love — they may not even get the opportunity.
The Bigger Question for Kansas City
Even if Love somehow slid to No. 9, would running back be the smartest allocation of premium draft capital?
The Chiefs still have bigger structural needs:
- Wide receiver depth
- Defensive reinforcements
- Offensive line considerations
A top-10 running back is a luxury move.

And Kansas City is built around Patrick Mahomes.
Why Fans Should Be Cautious
Combine hype moves fast.
Speed numbers go viral.
Highlight clips circulate.
Mock drafts explode.
But falling in love with a player who likely won’t be available sets up disappointment.
Jeremiyah Love looks like a special prospect.
He just may not be Kansas City’s prospect.
Bottom Line
Jeremiyah Love is climbing.
The Chiefs are picking ninth.

Those two paths probably won’t intersect.
Chiefs Kingdom can admire the talent — just don’t build draft dreams around it.
Because this domino appears ready to fall long before Kansas City is on the clock.
