Jimmy Kimmel Admits He Thought ‘It’s Over’ After Suspension
Many celebrities, along with tons of fans, rallied behind Kimmel after his show was pulled by ABC. And much of that led to the quick decision to have the late-night host’s popular show return.
However, when speaking with Stephen Colbert in September during his first interview since his show returned, he revealed that he thought his time with ABC had ended in that moment.
“I thought that it’s over. I was like, ‘I’m never coming back on the air,’” he admitted.
But, fans weren’t going to let that happen and they showed how excited they were for him to return to television, with so many tuning in for his first show back.
According to Deadline, Kimmel’s first episode back on the air had 6.26 million live-plus-same-day viewers. He previously averaged about 1.77 million viewers.

What Did Jimmy Kimmel Say In His First Monologue After Suspension
“If you’re just joining us, we’re preempting your regularly scheduled programming of Celebrity Family Feud to bring you this special report,” Kimmel said. “I’m happy to be here tonight with you…It’s been overwhelming. I’ve heard from a lot of people over the last six days. I’ve heard from all the people in the last six days. Everyone I have ever known has reached out 10 or 11 times. Characters from my past, the guy who fired me from my first radio job in Seattle — where we are not airing tonight, by the way — his name is Larry.”
Kimmel went on to thank fellow late-night hosts, while also showing his appreciation for the fans who canceled their Disney+ subscriptions in protest the network suspending his show.
“You supported our show cared enough to do something about it to make your voices heard so that mine could be heard and I will never forget it,” he added.
