The Patriots are already Super Bowl contenders again.
But a new trade rumor suggests New England might be preparing one more massive move.

Patriots Eye Stunning $44 Million Trade Opportunity to Supercharge Drake Maye’s Offense
The New England Patriots shocked the NFL last season.
In Mike Vrabel’s first year as head coach, the franchise surged all the way to the Super Bowl, completing one of the fastest turnarounds in recent league history. Now, the Patriots are entering the 2026 offseason with one clear goal:
Finish the job.
And according to new reports, New England could be considering a bold trade that would instantly upgrade their offense.
That move involves one of the most recognizable wide receivers in football — Davante Adams.
A New Opportunity Emerges
The Patriots already made a major change at wide receiver earlier this offseason when they released veteran star Stefon Diggs, who had just produced a 1,000-yard season for the team.
To replace him, New England signed Romeo Doubs, formerly of the Green Bay Packers.
While Doubs brings speed and upside, the move is widely viewed as more of a lateral replacement than a true upgrade.

If the Patriots want to take another step toward a championship, many analysts believe they may still need a dominant No. 1 receiver.
That’s where Davante Adams enters the picture.
The Trade Scenario
According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Los Angeles Rams recently explored trading Adams while attempting to acquire Philadelphia Eagles star receiver A.J. Brown.

If the Rams succeed in landing Brown, Adams could suddenly become expendable.
That possibility has opened the door for potential trade discussions — and the Patriots could be one of the most logical landing spots.
Interestingly, New England has also reportedly been monitoring the A.J. Brown situation.
If the Rams win the race for Brown, the Patriots could pivot quickly and pursue Adams instead.
What Adams Would Bring to New England
Even at 33 years old, Adams remains one of the most dangerous red-zone threats in the NFL.
During his first season with the Rams in 2025, he recorded:
- 60 receptions
- 789 receiving yards
- 14 touchdowns
Those touchdown numbers highlight exactly what he still does best — dominating defenses near the goal line.
For quarterback Drake Maye, adding a proven veteran receiver could provide the type of reliable target young quarterbacks often need during championship runs.

The Contract Factor
Adams signed a two-year, $44 million contract with the Rams last offseason.
If New England acquired him via trade, the deal would likely guarantee only one remaining season, which could significantly reduce the trade price.
That short-term commitment might actually make the deal more attractive.

Instead of locking into a long-term contract, the Patriots could bring Adams in for a Super Bowl push without sacrificing major future flexibility.
A Perfect Fit for a Contender?
The Patriots have already proven they can compete with the NFL’s best teams.
With a rising superstar quarterback in Drake Maye, a respected leader in Mike Vrabel, and a roster that just reached the Super Bowl, the team is firmly in win-now mode.
Adding Adams would give Maye a veteran playmaker capable of making clutch catches in big moments.
The question now is whether the opportunity actually materializes.

If the Rams finalize a blockbuster trade for A.J. Brown, Davante Adams could suddenly become one of the most intriguing trade targets in the NFL.
And if that happens, the Patriots might be ready to strike.
