The Raiders made a surprising move in free agency.
And it might give head coach Klint Kubiak a potential breakout weapon in his new offense.

Raiders Sign Jalen Nailor, Giving Klint Kubiak a Potential Breakout Receiver
The Las Vegas Raiders made an unexpected move during the opening of the NFL’s legal tampering period, agreeing to a three-year, $35 million contract with wide receiver Jalen Nailor, including $23 million guaranteed.
At first glance, the signing raised eyebrows.

Nailor has never recorded more than 444 receiving yards or 29 receptions in a single season, which made the deal seem like a gamble.
However, the Raiders clearly believe there’s more potential in the former Minnesota Vikings receiver.
Why the Raiders See Upside
Although Nailor’s overall numbers are modest, he has shown a knack for finding the end zone.
Over the last two seasons, he scored 10 touchdowns on just 57 receptions, showing strong efficiency when given opportunities.
The Raiders appear to believe that with a larger role in the offense, Nailor could take a major step forward.

Buried on the Vikings Depth Chart
One reason Nailor’s production remained limited in Minnesota was the competition for targets.
He spent much of his time behind two of the league’s top receivers:
- Justin Jefferson
- Jordan Addison
With those two dominating the passing game, Nailor ranked fifth in team targets in 2024 and fourth in 2025, leaving him with few opportunities to break out.
Opportunity in Las Vegas

In Las Vegas, the situation could be very different.
The Raiders don’t currently have a clear No. 1 wide receiver on the roster, which could allow Nailor to step into a bigger role.
Top returning offensive targets include:
- Brock Bowers (tight end)
- Tre Tucker (wide receiver)
- Ashton Jeanty (running back)
- Michael Mayer (tight end)
While Bowers is expected to be a primary weapon, there is room for another wide receiver to emerge.
A Fit for Klint Kubiak’s System

Nailor’s versatility could also make him valuable in Klint Kubiak’s offensive scheme.
He can line up both:
- On the outside
- In the slot
Additionally, he is considered a strong run blocker, a trait that fits well in Kubiak’s run-heavy system.
New Quarterback Could Help
Another factor that could boost Nailor’s production is the Raiders’ expected change at quarterback.
Las Vegas is widely projected to select Indiana star Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
If Mendoza becomes the team’s starting quarterback, the offense could become significantly more dynamic.
A Potential Breakout Candidate
While Nailor’s contract surprised some observers, the Raiders clearly see untapped potential.
With more playing time, a new offensive system, and a possible franchise quarterback arriving, Nailor could be positioned for the best season of his career.

And if that happens, the signing could turn from a surprise move into a major success for Las Vegas.
