Just weeks after celebrating a Super Bowl championship, the Seattle Seahawks may be on the verge of losing one of their most electrifying playmakers.

And the contract talks? They’ve barely even started.
Seahawks and Rashid Shaheed Far Apart on Contract Talks as Free Agency Looms
The Seattle Seahawks may be preparing to defend their Super Bowl title — but they could be doing it without one of the speed threats who helped them get there.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Seahawks and wide receiver Rashid Shaheed are currently “not close” on a contract extension, raising the strong possibility that the dynamic playmaker will enter NFL free agency next week.
With the legal tampering period opening Monday and free agency officially beginning shortly after, Shaheed appears ready to test the open market.

And if that happens, multiple teams are expected to line up quickly.
A Midseason Addition Who Made an Impact
Seattle acquired Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints just before the trade deadline, adding explosive speed to an already dangerous offense.

While his receiving numbers in Seattle weren’t overwhelming, his impact was felt in several ways.
Over nine regular-season games with the Seahawks, Shaheed recorded:
- 15 receptions for 188 yards
In the postseason, he added three receptions for 78 yards, contributing during Seattle’s run to its second Super Bowl championship.
Across the entire 2025 season — including his time with the Saints — Shaheed finished with 59 receptions for 687 yards and two touchdowns.
But statistics alone don’t fully capture his value.
A Game-Changing Return Specialist
Shaheed’s most dramatic contributions came on special teams, where he proved to be one of the most dangerous returners in the league.
During the season, he scored three return touchdowns, including critical plays that helped Seattle defeat division rivals San Francisco and the Los Angeles Rams.

Those explosive moments turned him into a fan favorite and a valuable weapon for the Seahawks’ offense and special teams unit.
Why a Deal Hasn’t Happened Yet
Despite his impact, negotiations between Shaheed and the Seahawks have stalled.
While Shaheed has indicated he would be open to staying in Seattle, the two sides appear to be far apart financially.
The Seahawks have significant roster decisions to balance this offseason.
One major factor is the team’s plan to extend Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba, whose upcoming contract is expected to command a massive payday.
That financial commitment could limit how aggressively Seattle pursues a deal with Shaheed.
The situation becomes even more complicated because another key player may also leave.

Seahawks Could Lose Multiple Offensive Stars
Running back Kenneth Walker III, who earned Super Bowl MVP honors, is also scheduled to hit free agency after the Seahawks chose not to place the franchise tag on him.
If both Walker and Shaheed depart, Seattle could face a surprising roster shakeup immediately after winning a championship.
Teams Already Monitoring the Situation
If Shaheed officially enters free agency, he’s expected to draw strong interest from teams looking to add speed and explosive playmaking ability.
Sports Illustrated analyst Gilberto Manzano has already identified several potential landing spots.
Among them:
- Buffalo Bills
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Las Vegas Raiders
The Bills and Chargers are both searching for more speed at wide receiver, while the Raiders could offer Shaheed a familiar system.
Las Vegas offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who previously worked with Shaheed, could make the Raiders an intriguing reunion option.
And with the Raiders desperately needing additional pass catchers alongside tight end Brock Bowers, Shaheed’s versatility could fit perfectly.
A Critical Week Ahead
With free agency just days away, the next week could determine whether Seattle keeps one of its most exciting players — or watches him leave for another opportunity.
For the Seahawks, it’s a delicate balancing act between rewarding a valuable contributor and managing the salary cap after a championship season.

For Rashid Shaheed, it could be the beginning of a major new chapter.
And if the Seahawks can’t close the gap in negotiations quickly, the rest of the NFL may soon get the chance to compete for one of the league’s fastest and most dangerous playmakers.
