Now that Kyler Murray has officially hit the open market, one NFL team appears to be the clear favorite to land him.

And according to insider Albert Breer, all signs point to Minnesota.
Kyler Murray’s Next Team? Signs Point to Vikings
Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is finally a free agent, and the Minnesota Vikings appear to be the most logical landing spot.
According to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, the Vikings have spent the past few months researching possible quarterback reclamation projects, and Murray’s name has consistently been at the top of the list.
Minnesota is hoping to replicate the success it once had with Sam Darnold, who revived his career before eventually leaving in free agency.

Now the Vikings could try a similar approach with Murray.
Why Minnesota Makes Sense
From a football perspective, the fit is obvious.
The Vikings have one of the most attractive offensive environments in the league, featuring:
• Justin Jefferson – arguably the NFL’s best wide receiver
• Jordan Addison – a rising star at receiver
• T.J. Hockenson – a top tight end target
• Aaron Jones – a reliable veteran running back
• Christian Darrisaw anchoring the offensive line
For a quarterback looking to rebuild his value, it’s a dream scenario.

Kevin O’Connell’s QB Success
Another reason the Vikings make sense for Murray is head coach Kevin O’Connell.
O’Connell has built a reputation for helping quarterbacks revive or improve their careers.
He previously helped elevate players like:
• Sam Darnold
• Daniel Jones
Minnesota believes Murray could benefit from the same system.
The Financial Situation Helps
The financial side also works perfectly for both parties.

Murray is still owed $36.8 million in guaranteed money for 2026, which the Arizona Cardinals must pay, minus whatever he earns with his new team.
That means Minnesota could sign him for the veteran minimum of about $1.215 million.
In other words:
• Murray still gets paid
• The Vikings take almost no financial risk
This setup gives Minnesota a high-upside quarterback at a very low cost.
What This Means for J.J. McCarthy
Minnesota still has J.J. McCarthy, who struggled during his first season as a starter.
Rather than handing the job to McCarthy again without competition, the Vikings could bring in Murray to create a quarterback battle in training camp.

Best-case scenario for Minnesota:
• Murray revitalizes his career
• McCarthy develops behind him
• The Vikings stabilize the most important position on the roster
Vikings Still Recovering From Darnold Decision
The Vikings’ quarterback search stems partly from a decision they made last year.
After the 2024 season, Minnesota chose not to re-sign Sam Darnold.
Darnold later joined the Seattle Seahawks, where he led the team to a Super Bowl victory, leaving many Vikings fans wondering if the team made the wrong call.
Now Minnesota hopes Murray could provide a similar redemption story.
When a Decision Could Come
At this point, no deal has been finalized.
But if the Vikings decide to move forward, the signing could happen quickly since Murray’s contract structure makes negotiations relatively simple.

For now, though, the situation remains a developing story.
