I can live my life the way I want to and be successful.’”

The unveiling of her statue was a defining moment, a symbol of inspiration for entire communities. “Families meeting up at your statue, kids dribbling a basketball by it—that fuels me to keep going,” she shares. At the Charleston County School District Coaches for Character Champ Awards, she delivered a heartfelt keynote, reminding students that success comes with adversity. “Winning in life isn’t easy,” she told them. “You’ll have days when you want to cry, but you are fully equipped to be successful.” Her message is simple yet powerful: don’t let expectations or criticism define your life. “You can’t please everybody, so don’t even bother trying,” she advises.
