One season changed everything for Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Now the Seahawks’ breakout superstar is collecting awards—and quietly preparing for what could become the biggest contract in franchise history.

Seahawks Celebrate Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s Historic Rise as Contract Questions Loom
The Seattle Seahawks are still riding the momentum of a historic championship run, but one name continues to dominate the spotlight even as the NFL offseason unfolds.
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
As the Seahawks prepare to defend their Super Bowl title, the franchise paused its free-agency moves to highlight another milestone for its emerging superstar.

And the recognition keeps piling up.
A Super Bowl Season That Rewrote the Record Books
Smith-Njigba didn’t just contribute to Seattle’s championship season—he helped define it.
Already widely regarded as one of the NFL’s most dangerous pass catchers, the dynamic receiver delivered a season that pushed him into elite territory across the league.
After posting 1,138 receiving yards in 2024, Smith-Njigba elevated his game to another level during Seattle’s title run.
He exploded for 1,973 receiving yards in the 2025 season, establishing himself as the centerpiece of the Seahawks’ offense and one of the most unstoppable receivers in football.

Seattle proudly acknowledged the milestone with a simple but powerful message on social media:
“Encore.”
The numbers alone were remarkable, but Smith-Njigba wasn’t done when the playoffs arrived.
In Seattle’s three postseason victories on the road to the Super Bowl championship, he added 17 receptions, 199 yards, and two touchdowns, leading the team in scoring during that stretch.
It was the kind of postseason performance that cements a player’s reputation.
Local Recognition Follows National Stardom
The accolades continued this week when Seattle media honored Smith-Njigba at the 91st Seattle Sports Star Awards.
The ceremony celebrated the city’s most memorable sports moments, and the Seahawks were front and center.
Seattle’s Super Bowl victory was named “Sports Story of the Year.”

But Smith-Njigba received one of the night’s most prestigious individual honors: Men’s Sports Star of the Year.
For a player still early in his career, the award reflects just how quickly he has become one of the city’s most beloved athletes.
And it also signals something else: Seattle’s offense now runs through him.
The Contract Decision Looming for Seattle
As impressive as Smith-Njigba’s performance has been, the Seahawks face a major decision ahead.
The All-Pro receiver is now eligible for a contract extension, and his market value could skyrocket after the season he just delivered.
Smith-Njigba himself isn’t rushing the process.

Instead, he has expressed confidence that the right deal will come at the right time.
“I’m not really too pressed right now,” he said. “I know my time is coming.”
Still, the wide receiver didn’t hide his belief about what that future deal might look like.
“I think I deserve to be the highest paid in my position,” Smith-Njigba added. “I give it my all to the game and my community.”
Despite the business side of football looming, his love for the sport remains clear.
“I would play this game for free,” he said. “But we still need that check at the end of the day.”
A Bigger Offensive Role Ahead?
Seattle’s offense could lean even more heavily on Smith-Njigba next season after a major offseason departure.
Running back Kenneth Walker III, who delivered a legendary Super Bowl performance during the championship run, left the Seahawks in free agency to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Losing Walker removes one of the offense’s biggest weapons.
But Seattle acted quickly to maintain another key piece of its attack by re-signing wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, ensuring the receiving corps remains one of the league’s most explosive units.
Former Seahawks star Richard Sherman praised the move, noting that keeping Shaheed alongside Smith-Njigba keeps the offense dangerous.
“I love this move,” Sherman said. “They’re putting the money where the production is.”
The Face of Seattle’s Future
The Seahawks’ championship window remains wide open, and Smith-Njigba has quickly become the centerpiece of that future.
With elite production, postseason heroics, and now major awards piling up, the receiver has already proven he belongs among the NFL’s elite playmakers.

The only remaining question is how Seattle will reward him.
Because if Smith-Njigba continues performing at this level, the Seahawks won’t just be defending their Super Bowl title next season.
They may also be preparing to hand their superstar receiver one of the richest contracts in NFL history.
