The Raiders thought they were trading away their biggest star.
Instead, Maxx Crosby is staying in Las Vegas — and that could change everything for the 2026 season.

Maxx Crosby’s Return Gives Raiders Major Boost for 2026
The Las Vegas Raiders nearly made one of the biggest trades of the NFL offseason.
Star pass rusher Maxx Crosby was reportedly headed to the Baltimore Ravens in a deal that would have given Las Vegas two first-round draft picks.
But at the last moment, Baltimore backed out of the trade, leaving Crosby exactly where Raiders fans hoped he would stay.

And now, his unexpected return could have a massive impact on the team’s outlook for the 2026 season.
A Franchise Star Stays in Las Vegas
Crosby has been one of the Raiders’ most important players for several seasons.
The elite edge rusher has consistently ranked among the NFL’s most disruptive defenders, capable of changing games with sacks, pressures, and big defensive plays.

By remaining with the Raiders, Crosby immediately raises the ceiling for Las Vegas’ defense.
Instead of entering the season without their defensive leader, the Raiders will once again have one of the league’s premier pass rushers anchoring their front.
Ravens Lose a Huge Opportunity
The team that may feel the biggest impact from the collapsed trade is Baltimore.
The Ravens were preparing to add Crosby as a major defensive weapon, but backing out of the deal means they missed a rare chance to land an elite edge rusher.
While Baltimore later addressed the position by acquiring Trey Hendrickson, the difference between Hendrickson and Crosby is still significant.

The Ravens also lost valuable time in free agency while preparing for the trade, meaning they were unable to pursue other major additions during that period.
Raiders Defense Suddenly Looks Stronger
For Las Vegas, Crosby’s return dramatically changes the outlook of their defense.
The Raiders had already been active in free agency, adding linebackers and cornerbacks to improve their defensive unit.

Had Crosby left, those improvements might not have been enough to compensate for losing their best pass rusher.
Now, however, the Raiders get the best of both worlds:
- New defensive additions
- Crosby still leading the pass rush
That combination could significantly improve a defense that struggled last season.
Helping the Raiders’ Young Quarterback
Crosby’s presence could also help take pressure off the Raiders’ offense.
Las Vegas is expected to build around rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who could face growing pains during his first NFL season.
Having a defensive superstar capable of ending drives and creating turnovers gives the team valuable support while their young offense develops.
A Higher Ceiling for the Raiders
Even if the Raiders originally considered entering a rebuilding phase, Crosby’s return changes the equation.

With new talent added in free agency, a rookie quarterback entering the system, and Klint Kubiak beginning his tenure as head coach, Las Vegas suddenly has more potential than expected.
Crosby’s presence alone gives the team both:
- A higher floor defensively
- A higher ceiling overall
And with that combination, the Raiders could become a surprise playoff contender in 2026.
