Brittany Mahomes Spends Days Building a Rainbow Igloo for Her Three Kids During Midwest Snowstorm

Brittany Mahomes is proving that winter weather is no match for a determined mom — or a viral Instagram idea.
On Monday, Feb. 2, the mom of three shared a sweet and humorous video on Instagram documenting her family’s days-long attempt to recreate the viral rainbow igloo trend in their backyard amid heavy Midwest snowfall.

“When you see this idea on Instagram and think it’s a good idea to do,” Brittany, 30, joked in the clip, “it’s really important… that you should probably think again 😂.”
A Multi-Day Family Project
The sped-up video shows Brittany and her kids filling dozens of aluminum trays with water and food coloring to create vibrant ice blocks.

Those trays were left outside for five days to freeze — and then refilled and frozen again when the first batch didn’t quite do the trick.
“Had to refill them and refreeze them… so now starting to build the igloo,” Brittany explained as the project moved into its construction phase.
Once the ice blocks were ready, the whole family joined in on assembly.

Brittany and husband Patrick Mahomes, both 30, teamed up with their children — daughters Sterling Skye, 4, Golden Raye, 12 months, and son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 3 — to stack the colorful ice blocks and seal them together using water.
The actual building process took two full days, but the payoff was worth it.
By the end, the igloo was large enough for Sterling and Bronze to walk inside, stand upright, and grin proudly for the camera.
“There Will Never Be a Next Time”
Brittany capped off the video with her signature humor.

“Just a couple rookies trying to show you the whole process of how to build an igloo… 😂😅,” she wrote in the caption. “Would say we will do better next time but there will never be a next time🙂.”
Patrick chimed in with a proud dad moment of his own, commenting, “Best mom out there!! ❤️❤️.”
The Viral Trend Behind the Build
The rainbow igloo trend originated with a Minnesota family who built a 12-foot-tall igloo using more than 700 ice blocks.
That original project reportedly took around 60 hours of work per adult, involved their children from start to finish, and became a neighborhood attraction — glowing from the inside at night.

The result? Millions of views online — and plenty of brave parents, like Brittany Mahomes, attempting their own colorful winter masterpiece.
Even if she says there won’t be a next time, her kids will likely remember this snowy, rainbow-filled adventure forever. ❄️🌈💙
