Brittany Mahomes is proving that when it comes to creating magical memories for her kids, she’s willing to go all in — even if it takes days of freezing temperatures, food coloring, and a whole lot of patience.

Amid heavy snowfall across the Midwest, the mom of three shared a behind-the-scenes look at her family’s ambitious winter project: a viral rainbow igloo made entirely of multicolored ice blocks in their backyard.

The sweet and humorous video, posted to Instagram on Monday, Feb. 2, documented the entire process from start to finish — and didn’t shy away from the chaos along the way.
“When you see this idea on Instagram and think it’s a good idea to do,” Brittany joked in the clip, “it’s really important… that you should probably think again 😂.”

The project began with dozens of aluminum trays filled with water and vibrant food dye, carefully placed outside to freeze.
Brittany explained that the freezing process alone took five days — and wasn’t exactly smooth sailing.

“Had to refill them and refreeze them… so now starting to build the igloo,” she shared, as the sped-up footage showed trays being reset again and again in the snowy backyard.
Once the ice blocks were finally ready, the real work began. Brittany, 30, enlisted the whole family, including husband Patrick Mahomes and their three children — Sterling Skye, 4, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 3, and baby Golden Raye, 12 months — to help assemble the structure.
Using water as a natural adhesive, the family stacked the colorful ice bricks layer by layer over the course of two days.
By the end, the rainbow igloo stood tall enough for Sterling and Bronze to walk inside, stand upright, and beam proudly for the camera.
The final result wasn’t just a successful DIY project — it was a fully immersive winter play space filled with color, laughter, and teamwork.

“Just a couple rookies trying to show you the whole process of how to build an igloo… 😂😅,” Brittany wrote in the caption. “Would say we will do better next time but there will never be a next time 🙂.”
Patrick Mahomes was quick to show his appreciation in the comments, calling Brittany the “Best mom out there!! ❤️❤️.”
The project was inspired by a viral TikTok trend that began with a Minnesota family who built a massive 12-foot rainbow igloo using more than 700 ice blocks.

That original build reportedly took around 60 hours of work per adult and became a glowing neighborhood attraction at night.
While Brittany’s version may have been smaller in scale, the heart behind it was just as big — turning a snowy stretch of winter into a hands-on memory her kids will likely remember long after the ice melts.
