DreāMont Jones Has One Major Goal With the Patriots: Finally Reach the Playoffs
New Patriots edge rusher DreāMont Jones is entering a new chapter in his NFL career after signing a three-year, $39.5 million contract with New England.
But for Jones, free agency wasnāt just about landing a big deal.
His biggest goal is something he has never experienced during his NFL career:
Playing in the playoffs.

Chasing His First Postseason Appearance
Despite several years in the league and stops with multiple teams, Jones has yet to reach the postseason.
Thatās something he hopes will finally change in New England.
āIām excited to be a part of something special like this,ā Jones said during his introductory press conference at Gillette Stadium.
The Patriots are coming off a Super Bowl appearance, and Jones believes joining a contender gives him the best chance yet to experience playoff football.
āIāve never been in the playoffs before, so hopefully it works out,ā he added.
Filling a Key Role on the Patriotsā Defense

Jones arrives at a time when the Patriots needed help along the edge.
The team lost several defensive contributors this offseason, including last seasonās sack leader KāLavon Chaisson, who signed with Washington. Linebackers Anfernee Jennings and Jahlani Tavai were also released.
Jones brings versatility to the defensive front. Although he has played inside during parts of his career, he expects to contribute heavily as an edge rusher.
His approach is simple: bring toughness.
āJust being a big, tough edge guy and setting the edge,ā Jones said. āPlay the run well, and when it’s time to pass rush, I’m a physical rusher.ā

A Connection to Head Coach Mike Vrabel
Jones already has a connection to Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
Vrabel originally recruited Jones when he was an assistant coach at Ohio State, creating a relationship that helped influence his decision in free agency.
That familiarity with Vrabelās style and mentality made New England an attractive destination.
Jones said seeing Vrabelās experience as both a coach and former player was a major factor.
āHeās done it and lived it,ā Jones said, describing what stood out about the Patriots coach.
Patriotsā Winning Culture Still Matters
Even during recent seasons when New England wasnāt at its peak, the franchiseās reputation remained powerful across the league.
For Jones, the Patriots still represent one thing above all else:
Winning.
āAll I remember was Tom Brady and winning,ā Jones said.

He also noted how difficult it has always been for opposing teams to play in Foxborough.
āItās always been tough to play against New England.ā
Building a Legacy in New England
Now Jones hopes he can help bring the Patriots back to championship contention.
With the team already coming off a Super Bowl appearance and adding new talent across the roster, he believes New England is building something special again.
And he wants to be part of that foundation.

āI get a chance to build some legacy,ā Jones said.
For a player who has never reached the playoffs, the opportunity to compete for championships is the biggest reward of all.
