Jasmine Crockett to make potential Senate campaign announcement Monday.
U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Dallas), told reporters over the last few days that she is still making up her mind about a potential Senate run, but it sure is sounding like sheās already done so. She plans on making an announcement at 4:30 p.m. Monday, which is also the last day you can file to run for office in the March primary for the midterm elections in November.
SheĀ told MS NOWĀ (the stupid rename for MSNBC) on Sunday that she was ācloser to yes than I am no,ā and also told theĀ Dallas Morning NewsĀ that she shared internal polling with her other two potential Democratic primary challengersāstate Rep. James Tallarico and former U.S. Rep. Colin Allred.Ā She also told the network that she has been attempting to talk more potential candidates into running for other statewide seats to create a full Democratic slate of candidates, āinstead of relying on one person to kind of carry the load.āĀ

The winner of the Democratic primary will face one of three (so far) Republicans: incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Houston), and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Cornyn seemed to disparage Crockettās potential candidacy, saying sheās āthat crazy enough that she could win the Democratic primary.ā
We sat down with Crockett after her first year in Congress, and she spoke about how her previous experience as a state representative helped her understand the politics in Washington. āI think getting a good understanding of how performative the other side is. I think thereās a lot of people that donāt realize that legitimately, there are people who are acting. They donāt even believe the things theyāre saying,ā she said when we asked her what about her time in Austin prepared her for Congress. āI walked into the state house thinking that anything that was crazy that was said was because literally, that person was crazy. But instead, itās like half of them are and the other half are just trying to do whatever it takes to keep their seats.ā
