Arsenal fans held their breath when Declan Rice suddenly asked to come off against Chelsea. Now Mikel Arteta has revealed the truth behind the injury scare—and the update could shape the next chapter of the title race.
Declan Rice Injury Scare Explained as Mikel Arteta Delivers Crucial Arsenal Update

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a much-needed update on Declan Rice after the midfielder sparked concern by asking to be substituted during the Gunners’ intense 2–1 victory over Chelsea.
With Arsenal fighting to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table, Rice’s condition quickly became one of the biggest talking points following the London derby at the Emirates Stadium.
The England international appeared to experience discomfort late in the match after aggravating his knee during a recovery run. Moments later, he signaled to the bench and requested to come off—an unusual move from a player known for his relentless stamina and determination.

Given the tight schedule ahead, including a crucial away trip to Brighton & Hove Albion, the situation immediately raised fears of a potential injury setback for one of Arsenal’s most important players.
But Arteta has now delivered encouraging news.
Speaking ahead of the Brighton clash, the Arsenal boss suggested that Rice’s condition has already improved.
“I hope so. He was much better today,” Arteta said when asked about the midfielder’s fitness.
However, the manager admitted that Arsenal have had limited time to fully assess the situation due to the rapid turnaround between matches.
“We haven’t really trained because we only have two days to prepare for the game,” Arteta explained. “Hopefully he’s going to be better tomorrow.”

While Rice’s status remains under close observation, another potential concern has already been cleared up.
Goalkeeper David Raya, who also raised fitness questions following the Chelsea match, has been declared fully available.
“David is good, good to go,” Arteta confirmed.
Rice’s availability could prove vital for Arsenal as they attempt to maintain their five-point advantage in the Premier League title race. Since arriving from West Ham, the midfielder has become the backbone of Arteta’s system—providing defensive stability, leadership, and control in midfield.
But Rice is not the only Arsenal player currently facing fitness questions.

Captain Martin Ødegaard was absent from the squad during the Chelsea match despite returning recently from a minor knee issue. Arteta explained that lingering discomfort made it too risky to include the Norwegian playmaker.
His condition will continue to be monitored before the Brighton fixture.
Meanwhile, Kai Havertz has taken a step closer to full fitness after returning to action for a brief cameo appearance against Chelsea.
The German midfielder participated in part of Arsenal’s latest training session, though Arteta admitted the club is still assessing whether he is ready for more minutes.

“Kai has done a part of the session,” the manager said. “We’ll wait and see if he’s okay.”
Another player still unavailable is defender Ben White, who remains sidelined.
Young talent Max Dowman, however, has made progress in his recovery from an ankle injury. The youngster recently played 45 minutes in an Under-21 match as part of his rehabilitation.
Arsenal also face another complication if Rice cannot play.
Midfielder Mikel Merino—who would likely be the natural replacement—is currently out after undergoing surgery for a foot injury.
Despite these concerns, Arteta confirmed there have been no additional injury setbacks within the squad, offering a degree of stability as Arsenal prepare for a demanding schedule.

The Gunners are set to face Brighton, Mansfield Town, and two Champions League clashes against Bayer Leverkusen, followed by a league fixture against Everton.
Meanwhile, Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler is also managing a limited injury list. Midfielder Yasin Ayari could return after resuming training, though defenders Adam Webster and Stefanos Tzimas remain sidelined following knee surgeries.
For Arsenal, the focus remains clear: protect key players while continuing their relentless push for the Premier League title.
And as long as Declan Rice avoids a serious setback, the Gunners’ midfield engine could be ready to power them through another decisive week.
