Scarlett Johansson is proving she’s more than comfortable in the co-host chair on Today With Jenna & Friends. The Jurassic World: Rebirth star brought her trademark charm — and a little chaos — during a holiday segment that had viewers laughing, gasping, and replaying her on-air antics.
The episode featured a spirited round of The Great Debate, where Johansson and host Jenna Bush Hager squared off on a quintessential holiday question: should everyone open their Christmas presents at the same time or take turns? From the outset, Bush Hager teased Johansson about their friendly rivalry. “Y’all know how much I love Scarlett, but even besties have their disagreements,” she said with a smile.
Johansson quickly reminded the audience of her competitive streak, proudly noting that she had beaten her husband, Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost, in the same game during a previous visit. When the debate began, each host had 20 seconds to defend their position. Bush Hager advocated for a measured approach, suggesting that taking turns allowed everyone to savor the moment and appreciate each gift. Johansson, however, was having none of it.
“Absolutely not. I say free-for-all,” she declared, laughing. As she continued her passionate argument, she couldn’t help letting slip a censored expletive: *“The kids are going absolutely ******, by the way, in the back because they can’t wait to open that next present. Give the kids what they want. That’s what Christmas is about.”
Neither Johansson nor Bush Hager seemed fazed by the slip. “I hope we can beep that word!” Bush Hager quipped, turning the moment into more humor than scandal. She also jokingly reminded producers to consider the slip when tallying points, but Johansson still walked away as the winner, claiming her second victory in The Great Debate.
Johansson’s chemistry with Bush Hager has been evident since she first guest-hosted the fourth hour of Today in early 2025. She has openly expressed interest in a permanent co-host role, and fans have been delighted by the energy she brings to the show. “I went to bed last night buzzing,” Johansson admitted during her second guest-hosting stint in January. “I was so excited, I prepared everything for today… I love this job!”
Bush Hager even joked about renaming the show Today With Jenna & Scarlett and starting a GoFundMe to keep Johansson on full-time — a testament to the pair’s infectious rapport.
Today With Jenna & Friends airs weekdays at 10/9c on NBC, and with Johansson back in the mix, it’s clear the holiday fun — and a few expletives — are just getting started.
