Stephen Colbert is eschewing the Ed Sullivan Theater for LA’s Chateau Marmont as The Late Show takes a short break.
The late-night show will skip an original episode this evening as Colbert is co-hosting GQ’s Man Of The Year event this evening alongside Christy star Sydney Sweeney, The Studio’s Seth Rogan, Frankenstein’s Oscar Isaac, pop star SZA, hip hop duo Clipse and Hailey Bieber. The dress code is ‘90s Hollywood Red Carpet.
It means that network late-night is down to only two shows this evening – NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers – after Jimmy Kimmel took the rest of the week off following the death of his friend and bandleader Cleto Escobedo III.

Instead, CBS will be rerunning an episode with former First Lady Michelle Obama and Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant.
Colbert recently appeared in GQ’s Man of the Year issue, decked out in a bathrobe and Bob Evans-style sunglasses. In the interview, staged at the Marmont’s pool, Colbert opened up about the end of The Late Show and teased plans for his next moves.
“Listen, every show’s got to end at some time. And I’ve been on a bunch of shows that have ended sometimes by our lights and sometimes by the decision of other people. That’s just the nature of show business. You can’t worry about that. You got to be a big boy about that. But I think we’re the first number one show to ever get canceled,” he said.
The former host of The Colbert Report said he wants to continue to make things in the future.
“I love creating things and I still want to work with the people I work with. I don’t know how you work with 200 people, 210, something like that, right? It’s an enormous amount of people. I love them. And I want to continue to do that with them to the degree that I can. And I want to find that with other people too. I just love making things,” he said.
