Returning to the court for NY Liberty against the LA Sparks on July 3, 2025, Leonie Fiebich felt the electricity in the arena immediately. “It was great to be back,” she said. “The gym was electric today, and it really pushed us to get that win.”
Fiebich candidly reflected on her performance, admitting there were moments of minor mistakes, but overall, she and her teammates executed their roles effectively. On defense, Fiebich focused on being disruptive and challenging the Sparks at every opportunity. Offensively, she acknowledged she could have been more aggressive with her shots but emphasized the collective effort. “We’re all learning how much physicality we can bring, how to adjust quickly, and make smart decisions,” she said

The game’s momentum shifted dramatically in the second half, driven by both individual brilliance and team adjustments. Sam, who struggled in the first half (1-of-10 shooting), came alive in the second half with six-of-eight, including ten straight points, pulling the Liberty from a double-digit deficit into the lead. Fiebich praised her resilience: “We told her at halftime to keep shooting, and she showed why she’s one of the best shooters. That mindset is contagious.”
Tasha Cloud also played a pivotal role. By attacking the rim and hitting crucial threes, she not only boosted her own confidence but also created opportunities for the team. Fiebich explained: “Having someone go downhill like that opens up the floor and makes everyone around them better.”
Defense became the key turning point. While the first half was sluggish, the Liberty tightened communication and increased physicality in the third quarter. “We needed to be better by just one percent in every action,” Fiebich said. “Putting our bodies on the line, contesting shots, and not letting them get easy points was crucial.”
But what truly stood out to Fiebich was the leadership and consistency of her teammates. “It’s not just Sam—Stewart and Tasha as well. Their consistency and determination lift the entire team, and that energy spreads,” she said.
Ultimately, Fiebich framed this win not just as a victory on the scoreboard, but as a pivotal morale boost for the Liberty. After a rough stretch, it reestablished trust, confidence, and momentum, setting the tone for the rest of the 2025 season.
