Megyn Kelly has made some very questionable comments about late pedophile and convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
During the Wednesday, November 12, episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, the 54-year-old political commentator got on the topic of emails sent by Epstein, who — before his death by suicide in 2019 — was convicted in 2008 of procuring a child for prostitution and of soliciting a prostitute.
Speaking to guest Batya Ungar-Sargon, Kelly claimed, “I do know somebody very, very close to this case who is in a position to know virtually everything — not everything, but virtually everything.”
“This person has told me from the start, years and years ago, that Jeffrey Epstein, in this person’s view, was not a pedophile,” Kelly continued. “This is this person’s view, who was there for a lot of this.”
Kelly did note, though, that Epstein was said to be “into the barely-legal type,” including people in their teens who were not yet legally an adult.
“He liked 15-year-old girls,” Kelly said. “And I realize that this is disgusting. I’m definitely not trying to make an excuse for this, I’m just giving you facts that he wasn’t into, like, 8-year-olds. But he liked the very young teen types that could pass for even younger than they were, but would look legal to a passerby.”
Kelly said that this is what she “believes” after being “reliably” told this information for “many years.”
She then appeared to muse on what exactly defines pedophilia or its levels.
“I don’t know what’s true about him, but we have yet to see anybody come forward and say, ‘I was under 10.’ ‘I was under 14 when I first came within his purview,’” Kelly said. “I think there’s a difference between a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old.”
Her comments on The Megyn Kelly Show sparked immediate conversation on X (formerly Twitter), with some appearing to agree with Kelly’s thoughts.
“They’re both bad, but what she’s saying is true,” one person wrote. “One is far worse than the other.”
However, most people were severely outraged by Kelly’s stance.
“Megyn Kelly trying to convince her listeners that sex trafficking girls is less offensive if they’ve gone through puberty,” wrote Shannon Watts, a gun violence prevention activist and the founder of Moms Demand Action.
Political consultant Alexandra Sammarco called Kelly’s words “career-ending,” adding: “15 year olds are CHILDREN. They can’t drive. They can’t see rated R movies. But disgusting 50 year old men should be allowed to rape them? Goodbye. Forever.”
On November 12, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee released three email correspondences between Epstein and others. The late financier was arrested in July 2019 on charges of sex trafficking. After being denied release from jail, he was found dead in his cell on August 10, 2019.
