Travis Kelce says one person played a major role in convincing him to return for another NFL season — Taylor Swift.
The Kansas City Chiefs star tight end revealed that his fiancée helped inspire his decision to play a 14th season in the NFL.
Travis Kelce Says Taylor Swift Helped Motivate His Return to the Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is officially returning for his 14th NFL season, and he says Taylor Swift played a big role in that decision.
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Kelce explained that watching Swift continue to push herself creatively in her music career inspired him to keep pursuing greatness in football.
“Without a doubt, we share the same love for what we do,” Kelce said.
Seeing Swift constantly evolve in her career reminded him that he still had unfinished business in the NFL.
Kelce Says Swift’s Work Ethic Inspired Him
Kelce said it’s motivating to watch Swift keep reinventing herself and maintaining passion for her craft.
“It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about, new melodies… and still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does,” Kelce said.
That mindset helped him realize he still had plenty left to give on the football field.
“Something like that definitely motivates me to say, ‘You know what? I’m not done either.’”
Chiefs’ Offseason Moves Also Helped
Kelce’s return was also influenced by the Chiefs’ aggressive offseason moves.
Kansas City recently signed running back Kenneth Walker III, the Super Bowl LX MVP, giving the offense another major weapon.
Kelce praised the front office for continuing to push the team forward.
“Making another run at it, baby, and the Chiefs are making moves,” Kelce said.
Still in Love With the Game
Despite speculation that he might retire after last season, Kelce said the decision to come back didn’t take very long.
After taking some time to decompress, he realized he still loves every part of the game.
“I still love going to work, putting on the pads, grinding it out and playing the game,” Kelce said.
That passion — along with the chance to compete alongside Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid again — made the decision easier.
Chiefs Are Motivated After Tough Season
Kelce also revealed that the team has a renewed sense of urgency heading into 2026.
Kansas City finished 6–11 in 2025 after Patrick Mahomes suffered a knee injury, a disappointing season for a franchise used to competing for championships.
Kelce says the entire locker room now has a stronger edge.
“We’ve got to be even hungrier than we’ve been before,” he said. “There’s a lot of dog mentality right now to get this thing fixed.”
Kelce Learning From Swift’s “Easter Eggs”
Kelce even joked that Swift has influenced how he communicates publicly.
Swift is famous for hiding “Easter eggs” — subtle hints and references — in her music and announcements.
Kelce said being around her helped him understand the concept.
“Once I started dating Taylor, I started understanding what Easter eggs were,” he said.
The Goal: One More Championship Run
With Kelce returning, Mahomes recovering from injury, and the Chiefs adding new talent, Kansas City hopes to bounce back in 2026.
And if Kelce has his way, the motivation from Swift and the team’s renewed hunger could lead to another Super Bowl run.
