Thirteen years after his name was first called by the New York Jets, one familiar quarterback is coming home.
In a twist few saw coming, Geno Smith is officially back in green and white.

Geno Smith Returns to the Jets in Surprise Trade — A Full-Circle NFL Moment
The New York Jets have pulled off one of the most emotional reunions of the NFL offseason.
The franchise announced it has acquired veteran quarterback Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders, along with a 2026 seventh-round draft pick, in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick.
For Smith, the move marks a remarkable full-circle moment — returning to the very team that drafted him 13 years ago.
Originally selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft (No. 39 overall), Smith now finds himself back where his NFL journey began.

A Veteran Career Comes Home
Now 35 years old, Smith returns to New York after building one of the most unique comeback stories in modern NFL history.
Over 12 seasons with five different teams, the veteran quarterback has completed 65.2% of his passes for 22,168 yards, along with 124 touchdowns and 89 interceptions.
Last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, Smith started 15 games, completing 67.4% of his passes for 3,035 yards with 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

But the most impressive chapter of his career came during his time with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Seattle Revival
After joining Seattle as a backup in 2020, Smith eventually took over as the team’s starting quarterback in 2022, launching one of the NFL’s most inspiring career turnarounds.
That season, he led the league with nine games featuring a completion rate of 70% or higher and recorded 10 games with a passer rating above 100.
His performance earned him Associated Press Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2022, along with Pro Bowl selections in both 2022 and 2023.
During his three-year run as Seattle’s starter, Smith compiled remarkable numbers:
- 49 starts
- 12,226 passing yards
- 71 touchdowns
- 35 interceptions
- 68% completion percentage
In 2024, he set Seahawks franchise records for passing attempts, completions, yards, and completion percentage.
Early Career in New York
Smith’s original tenure with the Jets had its share of highs and challenges.
During his first four seasons in New York, he appeared in 30 games, throwing for 5,962 yards with 28 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.

As a rookie in 2013, Smith threw for 3,046 yards, becoming just the 13th rookie quarterback in NFL history to surpass the 3,000-yard mark.
He also showed impressive mobility, rushing for 366 yards and six touchdowns, both among the best totals ever recorded by a Jets quarterback in a single season.
One of his most memorable moments came in the 2014 season finale, when Smith led the Jets to a victory over the Miami Dolphins with a perfect passer rating — the first Jets quarterback to achieve that feat since 1990.
A Quarterback Built for Comebacks
Throughout his career, Smith has proven to be a clutch performer.
He has recorded 13 fourth-quarter comebacks and 19 game-winning drives, demonstrating the poise and experience that can be invaluable for a veteran quarterback.
A Meaningful Return

When the Jets drafted Smith back in 2013 at Radio City Music Hall, he described the moment as unforgettable.
“A great experience, a dream come true to hear my name called and be a Jet,” Smith said at the time.
More than a decade later, the story has come full circle.

After years of ups and downs across the league, Geno Smith is once again a New York Jet — bringing experience, leadership, and a remarkable NFL journey back to the team where it all began.
