Selena Gomez has officially confirmed what Swifties suspected for years: Taylor Swiftâs song âDorotheaâ was written about her.

During a recent appearance on her husband Benny Blancoâs podcast, Friends Keep Secrets, the Only Murders in the Building star revealed that the track from Swiftâs 2020 album Evermore was inspired by their long-lasting friendship.
ââDorotheaâ is about me,â Gomez said during the conversation.
The singer and actress reflected on how their bond developed when they were both teenagers trying to navigate fame and life in the spotlight.
âWe were figuring out huge moments in life â relationships, family, love, even hate,â Gomez explained. âI was 15 and she was 18. We didnât really know what was going on, but weâve never seen each other any differently.â
Why Fans Believed the Song Was About Gomez

The song âDorotheaâ tells the story of a childhood friend who moves away to pursue stardom in Hollywood but is always welcome back home.
Fans began speculating years ago that the song referenced Gomez because of one particular lyric about the subject âselling makeup and magazines.â
That line immediately caught the attention of Swiftâs fanbase because Gomez is the founder of the successful cosmetics company Rare Beauty.

After hearing the song, Gomez said she was deeply moved by how Swift captured their story.
âWhen I listen to it, Iâm so impressed by how beautifully itâs written,â she said.
Another Song Written About Their Friendship
According to Gomez, âDorotheaâ isnât the only song Swift wrote inspired by their relationship.
She revealed that Swift once wrote an unreleased track called âFamily,â which directly referenced their early dreams and ambitions.
The lyrics reportedly described how Gomez wanted to pursue acting and film, while Swift dreamed about performing in massive stadiums.

âYou believe in my stupid dreams like playing stadiums,â Gomez recalled Swift writing in the song.
Looking back now, Gomez says hearing those lyrics is emotional because both dreams eventually came true.
âWhenever I hear those songs, it makes me want to cry,â she said.
A Friendship That Has Lasted Nearly Two Decades
Swift and Gomez first became friends nearly 17 years ago, and their relationship has endured through careers, personal challenges, and major life milestones.
Today, both stars have entered new chapters in their personal lives.

Gomez married music producer Benny Blanco in September, while Swift became engaged to Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce last August.
Reflecting on how far theyâve come, Gomez said their shared journey is something she cherishes deeply.
âItâs unbelievable,â she said. âWeâve been through heartbreaks, love stories, and everything in between. And now weâre both engaged around the same time. That was the coolest part.â

Even after nearly two decades in the spotlight, their friendship remains one of the most beloved and enduring relationships in pop culture.
