With the NFL Combine officially in the books, draft season has shifted into high gear. The all-star showcases are finished, athletic testing numbers are now in the hands of scouts, and teams across the league are beginning to sharpen their strategies for the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh (April 23–25).

While pro days, team visits, and private workouts will still influence the board, the latest projections are already giving fans a glimpse of what could unfold on draft night.
And if the newest mock draft proves even partially accurate, several franchises may be preparing for franchise-altering decisions.
Raiders Eye Franchise Quarterback at No. 1
The Las Vegas Raiders, coming off a brutal 3–14 season, are projected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick.
Mendoza arrives with an extraordinary résumé. The Heisman Trophy winner and national champion combines prototypical size at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds with a powerful arm and surprising mobility.
League insiders have already noticed the Raiders’ growing interest. During combine meetings, team representatives even asked Mendoza’s college teammates whether they would want to continue playing alongside him at the next level.

That type of question rarely happens without intention.
All signs suggest the Raiders may already have their future quarterback circled.
Defensive Stars Could Dominate the Early Picks
While quarterbacks usually dominate the top of the draft, this year’s class features several defensive prospects capable of transforming entire units.
One of the most explosive is Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey, projected to go No. 2 to the New York Jets. Bailey finished the 2025 season with 14.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss, along with a staggering 81 quarterback pressures, making him one of the most disruptive defenders in college football.
Another defensive game-wrecker, Ohio State’s Arvell Reese, could land with the Arizona Cardinals at No. 3. Known for his versatility, Reese can dominate both as a pass rusher and an off-ball linebacker, making him one of the most intriguing defensive weapons in the draft.

Meanwhile, Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. is projected to join the Tennessee Titans at No. 4, providing a powerful complement to defensive star Jeffery Simmons.
A Surprise Top-10 Talent: Jeremiyah Love
One of the most fascinating names rising rapidly up draft boards is Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.
Projected to land with the New Orleans Saints at No. 8, Love could become the draft’s most dynamic offensive weapon. His combination of size, speed, and elite receiving ability gives him true three-down potential.

Some analysts already believe Love might be the best overall player in the entire draft class, making him a possible franchise-changing addition for teams looking to revitalize their running game.
Chiefs Could Add Another Weapon for Patrick Mahomes
At No. 9, the Kansas City Chiefs may look to further empower superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes by selecting USC wide receiver Makai Lemon, the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner.
Although Lemon’s combine performance raised a few questions, his film tells a different story. Known for his precise route running and explosive playmaking after the catch, Lemon could become Mahomes’ next elite target.
For a Chiefs offense that thrives on speed and spacing, the pairing could be terrifying for opposing defenses.

Rams Preparing for Life After Matthew Stafford
Perhaps the most fascinating storyline in the mock draft involves the Los Angeles Rams, who appear ready to begin planning for the future at quarterback.
With the 13th overall pick, the Rams are projected to select Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson—a move that signals a possible succession plan for veteran Matthew Stafford.
Simpson’s draft stock has fluctuated dramatically throughout the season. Early in the year he looked like a potential top-five pick, but inconsistent performances lowered his projection. After a strong showing at the combine, however, his stock appears to have stabilized in the middle of the first round.
If the Rams pull the trigger, Simpson would likely spend time learning under Stafford before eventually taking over the offense.
Few mentorship situations in the NFL could be more valuable.
Late First Round Could Feature Defensive Upgrades
As the draft moves deeper into the first round, teams begin focusing on roster depth and long-term building.
The Chicago Bears, picking at No. 25, are projected to take Clemson edge rusher T.J. Parker, adding another pass-rushing option to strengthen their defense.
Meanwhile, the New England Patriots may prioritize defensive pressure as well, with Texas A&M edge rusher Cashius Howell projected at No. 31. Howell’s explosive first step and relentless motor helped him record 11.5 sacks last season, making him a dangerous weapon for Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, who historically prioritizes pass rushers.

Finally, the Seattle Seahawks, fresh off their Super Bowl victory, are expected to strengthen their secondary by selecting Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell with the final pick of the first round.
Terrell is known for his aggressive style, fluid coverage ability, and strong football instincts—traits that could help him become an immediate contributor in Seattle’s defense.
The Draft Drama Is Just Beginning
With the combine complete and the draft less than two months away, the excitement surrounding the 2026 class is only beginning to build.
Free agency will undoubtedly shift team needs, and pro-day performances could still reshape draft boards.
But one thing is already clear:
When the NFL Draft arrives in Pittsburgh this April, several teams may walk away with players who redefine their franchise’s future for the next decade.
