💥 BREAKING NEWS: Dodgers Send Top Prospect Josue De Paula to Minor League Camp as Roster Cuts Intensify
GLENDALE, Arizona — The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially begun tightening their spring training roster, and one of the biggest names included in the latest round of cuts has quickly caught the attention of fans.

On Sunday afternoon, the Dodgers trimmed their roster by 12 players, sending several prospects and non-roster invitees to minor league camp as the team moves closer to finalizing its Opening Day lineup.
Among those reassigned was top outfield prospect Josue De Paula, one of the most closely watched young players in the organization this spring.
While the move may initially surprise some observers, it reflects the Dodgers’ typical approach to carefully managing the development of their top prospects rather than rushing them to the major league level.

A Heavy Spring Workload
Despite being just 19 years old, De Paula was one of the most active players in the Dodgers’ spring training lineup.
The young outfielder appeared in 15 Cactus League games, tying for the team lead in appearances and playing almost every day since spring training began on February 21.
That level of playing time showed how interested the Dodgers were in evaluating his progress.
And De Paula did show flashes of why he’s considered one of the franchise’s most exciting prospects.
Across 27 at-bats, he collected nine hits, including a double, while also drawing four walks.

He struck out eight times — a reminder of the adjustment that comes when a teenager faces experienced major league pitchers — but overall, the numbers reflected both potential and development still in progress.
De Paula also appeared in a special exhibition matchup against Team Mexico, another sign that the Dodgers wanted to give him exposure against high-level competition.
Part of a Larger Round of Cuts
De Paula was not alone in Sunday’s roster moves.
In total, 10 non-roster invitees were reassigned to minor league camp:
- Carlos Duran
- Carson Hobbs
- Garrett McDaniels
- Jackson Ferris
- Wyatt Mills
- Jordan Weems
- Lucas Wepf
- Griffin Lockwood-Powell
- Kendall George
- Josue De Paula
Meanwhile, two players already on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster were also moved.

Outfielder Ryan Ward and pitcher Ronan Kopp were optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, positioning them as potential depth pieces who could still return to the majors later this season if needed.
A Unique Case Among the Cuts
One name among the group stood out for an unusual reason.
Pitcher Lucas Wepf was reassigned without appearing in a single spring training game, making him the only player in this round of cuts who never took the field during Cactus League action.
Dodgers Camp Still Packed
Even after Sunday’s roster reductions, the Dodgers still have 51 players remaining in major league camp.
That group includes:
- 26 pitchers
- 25 position players
As spring training progresses deeper into March, additional roster cuts will continue as the team moves closer to its Opening Day roster.
A Step Forward, Not a Setback
For De Paula, the reassignment isn’t a sign of disappointment.

It’s simply part of the Dodgers’ long-term development plan.
The organization is known for patiently developing its young stars, allowing them to refine their skills in the minor leagues before bringing them to the major league stage.
At just 19 years old, De Paula remains one of the youngest players in the system — and his spring training experience gave him valuable exposure against big-league competition.
If his early flashes are any indication, it may not be long before the talented outfielder returns to the spotlight in Los Angeles.
