Patrick Mahomes is grinding through rehab seven hours a day.
But that’s not the only spotlight he and Brittany Mahomes are stepping into this offseason.

While the Chiefs quarterback battles back from a brutal ACL and MCL tear suffered in Week 15, he and Brittany just made a major announcement — one that has nothing to do with football, and everything to do with their rapidly rising sports empire.
The Kansas City Current are headed to prime time.
ESPN Shines the Spotlight on the Mahomes’ Team
On February 23, ESPN revealed that the Kansas City Current will be featured in a brand-new original docuseries titled “NWSL: The Final Third.”
The three-episode series — produced by Words + Pictures, Omaha Productions, and ESPN — premieres on the ESPN app on February 25, airs on ESPN2 on March 2, and streams on Disney+ through March 31.
And this isn’t a minor cameo.

The Current will take center stage alongside the Washington Spirit and Angel City FC in what ESPN promises will be an “intimate look” at the rivalries, pressure, personalities, and boardroom battles shaping the rapidly growing NWSL.
From the pitch to the power plays behind the scenes, the Mahomes-led franchise is officially part of the national conversation.
From Dominance to Heartbreak
The spotlight comes after a historic — and painful — 2025 season.
The Current didn’t just win. They rewrote the record books.
- Most points in league history (65)
- Most wins (21)
- Most shutouts (16)
- Most multi-goal wins (15)
- Fastest team ever to win the NWSL Shield
They were the runaway No. 1 seed.

And then… disaster.
Gotham FC, the No. 8 seed, stunned Kansas City in the quarterfinals. A season that looked destined for a championship ended in heartbreak.
Now ESPN cameras will document what happens next.
The Mahomes Effect Extends Beyond the NFL

While Patrick rehabs under the watchful eye of Chiefs trainer Julie Frymyer — reportedly spending seven hours a day at the team facility, per Andy Reid — Brittany continues to play a visible role in the Current’s rise.
Together, they aren’t just celebrity investors.
They’re builders.
Four years after playing their first match in 2021, the Current are now the second-most valuable franchise in the NWSL, valued at $275 million — despite being in the league’s fourth-smallest market.
After opening CPKC Stadium, the first stadium built primarily for a professional women’s sports team, Kansas City generated a league-high $36 million in revenue in 2024, according to Forbes.
That’s not hype.
That’s business dominance.
The Next Phase
Following the playoff collapse, the Current didn’t sit still.

They hired new head coach Chris Armas and made two blockbuster roster moves to reshape the team. Ownership also committed to a $52 million expansion project in Riverside, Missouri — including a 35,000-square-foot performance center and pitch expansion.
Translation?
They’re not satisfied with relevance.
They want a dynasty.
