The Seattle Seahawks landed veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp on a team-friendly deal last year, and it paid off in a big way when he helped lead the team to a Super Bowl.

The Seahawks shared some news about Kupp’s performance in the win over the New England Patriots, praising his first-of-its-kind accomplishment. The team also made an apparent decision on Kupp’s future with the franchise.

Seahawks Share Cooper Kupp’s Accomplishment
The Seahawks took to social media this week to announce a big accomplishment for Kupp, noting that he was the first player in league history to make an important mark on the Super Bowl.

“First player in NFL history to lead two different franchises in receiving yards in a Super Bowl win,” the team wrote in a post on X.
Kupp made six receptions for 61 yards in the 29-13 win over the Patriots, helping the Seahawks establish a ball-control offense that saw them dominate the Patriots through three quarters before the teams combined for 30 points in the fourth.

Kupp also made eight receptions for 92 yards with two touchdowns for the Los Angeles Rams when they beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI.
Kupp said he almost had a major mishap in the Super Bowl on teammate AJ Barner’s touchdown, but he made a quick decision.
Appearing on the “New Heights” podcast, Kupp said the team lined up in the wrong formation, but he changed his route quickly to allow Barner to get free.
“I’m so pumped for Barnyard, man. His touchdown was almost a disaster,” Kupp said. “There was a problem, I think it was on the wristband. But we called the play, I think Jaxon [Smith-Njigba] is out at the time he’s going through his protocol to get back out.

The call ended up being like the formation was backwards to what the play call was. I see AJ running towards, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh. I’m about to run the wrong route.’ So I changed it on the fly. We almost had a complete disaster. We got it done.”
Cooper Kupp Staying in Seattle
The Seahawks signed Kupp to a three-year deal worth $45 million with $26.5 million guaranteed. Kole Musgrove of USA Today’s Seahawks Wire noted it was “an incredibly team-friendly deal” that just passed an important deadline.
“The remaining $9 million of that $26.5 was set to become fully guaranteed if Kupp was still a Seahawk five days after the conclusion of Super Bowl LX, which was Friday, February 13th,” Musgrove wrote. “Oh, would you look at that, we’ve already past that date, and Kupp is still on the roster.”
Musgrove added that the Seahawks had a window where they could have parted ways with Kupp, but remained committed to the veteran receiver as they aim to defend their Super Bowl title.

“If Seattle was going to cut Kupp to save some cash, they’ve missed their window,” Musgrove wrote. “With the $9 million now fully guaranteed/invested in the two-time Super Bowl champion, it’s a fairly strong indicator Kupp is going to be on the roster when the 2026 season comes around.
Of course, there would have been no reason for them to move on from the Eastern Washington standout after only one year.”
