Two outfielders. Two generations. Two opposing draft philosophies. You’re in the middle of the draft and the clock is ticking, leaving no room for hesitation: Brent Rooker, 31, proven power; or Roman Anthony, 21, whose skill set makes his OBP (Outfield Performance) look ridiculous?
This is the classic fantasy 2026 dilemma: high floor vs. high ceiling.

Rooker enters 2026 with a profile that fantasy GMs love. After a breakout 2024 season, he cooled down slightly in 2025 but still maintained a rare foundation: playing 162 games. Moving to Sacramento didn’t shut down his power; on the contrary, the 330 ft LF (Low Field) wall facilitated his power pull. Three consecutive seasons with 30+ HR (Hours per Hour) wasn’t luck. Playing 135 games in the High Field reduces injury risk—a small but crucial detail in the middle of the draft.

Anthony, however, is quite different. The overall No. 1 prospect’s 2025 debut isn’t a bombastic, high-impact affair, but rather a formidable display of plate discipline: .396 OBP in 71 games, hard batting, and a mature pitch selection rarely seen at 21. An oblique injury cut short his season, but his savant profile reveals one thing: when power is “unlocked,” he could be a game-changer. The downside? A high K-rate and Fenway’s lack of HR for the left winger — though the AL East schedule somewhat compensates for that.

Comparing the two:
Power & Counting Stats
Rooker remains the clear favorite in HR/RBI. His A’s lineup includes Jacob Wilson, Jeff McNeil, and Nick Kurtz as a springboard; Rooker is there to… finish them off. His average speed and age make SB less promising, but his floor-time 30 HR/85 RBI is a valuable asset.

Anthony is more likely to lead off: his RBI is more limited, but he compensates with runs and AVG/OBP. Power hasn’t reached Rooker’s level yet, but 18–20 HR and 10–15 SB is a reasonable scenario if healthy.
Projected 600 AB (2026)
Rooker: 85 R / 33 HR / 96 RBI / .265 AVG
Anthony: 101 R / 18 HR / 67 RBI / 13 SB / .271 AVG

Context & Risks
Rooker benefits from pull power and the California weather; as long as he’s healthy, he’ll give you consistent points throughout the season. Anthony brings variables: youth, K-rate adjustments, injury risk. But if the power spike comes early, Anthony’s scoring ceiling could exceed expectations — especially in league OBP/points.

Practical Conclusion
If you need peace of mind, need a solid mid-round scoreline: Rooker. If you’re in the OBP league, and you already have a solid foundation and want to take a gamble to win the league, Anthony is a well-deserved dice roll. Fantasy doesn’t reward fear — but it doesn’t tolerate blind recklessness either. Choose according to your team structure, not emotion.
