In a room filled with just 100 lucky supporters, Ruben Dias didn’t talk tactics first. He didn’t relive title-winning moments or Champions League triumphs.
Instead, he spoke about purpose.
At the exclusive “Defending With Dias” charity evening in aid of City in the Community (CITC), the Portuguese captain delivered something far more personal than match analysis — he delivered conviction.

Guests at the Etihad were treated to a premium three-course dinner before Dias took the stage for an intimate live conversation. But what unfolded was more than just a Q&A. It was a glimpse into the mindset of a leader redefining what influence truly means.
“I Dug Deeper Into Myself”
Dias admitted that not long ago, he took time to reflect on his legacy — not in medals, but in meaning.
“Not too long ago, I dug deeper into myself and looked at what I wanted to achieve and be associated to,” he told the audience.
One word kept resurfacing: education.

For a player whose career has been built on discipline, structure, and relentless standards, the connection makes sense. But hearing him frame education as central to his identity revealed a new dimension to the City captain.
“City in the Community has provided me with a way to focus on this vision of influencing education and to keep on supporting young people,” he explained.
He didn’t describe it as charity work.
He described it as responsibility.
More Than Football

City in the Community’s mission — empowering healthier lives through football — has become deeply aligned with Dias’ personal goals. The defender emphasized the scale of the charity’s impact across Greater Manchester, particularly for children and young people.
“The importance of young kids in society is massive,” he said. “I am finding ways to do as much as I can to help.”
For Dias, using his platform isn’t optional — it’s essential.
“I think that all of this that I am pursuing is making me stronger. It is the right way to use my influence. It gives me purpose, and it is very much something worth fighting for.”

In a sport often dominated by contracts, trophies, and headlines, those words cut differently.
The Mentality That Never Switches Off
Of course, the fire that defines Ruben Dias on the pitch hasn’t faded.
When the conversation turned to leadership and his insatiable hunger to win, the intensity sharpened.
“It’s just in me to pursue the best possible way to win a game — ultimately, it is just who I am,” he said.
He traced that mentality back to his earliest days on trial at Benfica, where every session, every minute, carried survival-level importance.
“All I wanted to do was win the game. Even today, after winning so much, that mentality stays the same.”
That refusal to relax — even after Premier League titles and European glory — is precisely why he wears the armband.

A Night That Raised More Than Applause
The evening wasn’t just inspirational — it was impactful.
Supporters took part in a live auction and raffle featuring exclusive prizes, with all proceeds supporting CITC’s community programmes. Guests also captured professional photos with Dias, leaving with more than just memories — they left knowing they had contributed to something bigger.
CITC CEO Mike Geary highlighted the significance of the night.
“Events like this demonstrate the unique power of our connection to the Club and its players,” he said, thanking Dias for giving his time so generously.

The funds raised will continue to fuel vital programmes supporting children, young people, and families across Greater Manchester — work that Geary insists would be impossible without this level of backing.
Ruben Dias may be celebrated for last-ditch tackles and commanding headers.
But on this night, he proved leadership isn’t just about lifting trophies.
It’s about lifting others.
And in that fight, he looks just as unstoppable.
