Sunny Hostin had to give New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani some credit on The View for how he handled his recent meeting with President Trump.
Trump was all smiles after his meeting with Mamdani Friday (Nov. 20), much to the surprise of many as the politicians have publicly criticized each other on several occasions. On Monday’s episode of The View, Hostin joked that Mamdani “played” Trump “like a New Yorker would play anybody.”
“New Yorkers, we’re a special breed of people, okay?” she continued as Sara Haines pointed out that Trump also hails from the Big Apple. “I’m from the Bronx, [Mamdani] lived in Queens and game knows game.”
Hostin went on to say that Mamdani seemed to have handled his meeting with Trump well, despite their history. “I really think that Mamdani spoke [Trump’s] language, he spoke about housing, he talked about affordability,” she said. “Trump wants a piece of the New York housing business, this was about business. Mamdani, we got to give it him. He played it like a politician.”
Ana Navarro shared that she was surprised by how chummy Trump seemed with Mamdani after the meeting, especially after Trump recently called Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene a “traitor” and rescinded his endorsement.
“Who would have thought? Marjorie Taylor Greene is out and Zohran Mamdani is in,” she joked. “It’s like Freaky Friday.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin, on the other hand, chalked it up to Mamdani’s charm.
“We all met Zohran Mamdani when he came here. I have a million criticisms of his policies [but] he’s incredibly charming,” she said. “He walked in with a goal of, ‘I do not want federal troops in my city, I don’t want federal government dollars cut off to my city.’”
Joy Behar did not appear too surprised by Trump’s reception of the new mayor.
“He’s always wanted the love of New York… He wants it so badly,” she said. “So, that’s to our advantage in New York, maybe. Because we need the money from the federal government.”
The ladies later ended their segment by poking fun at Trump. Many online joked that the president got a “major glow-up” when Trump was spotted wearing a rather fashionable red scarf after his meeting with Mamdani, a look that Barack Obama also sported.
“Who wore it best?” Behar asked her co-hosts.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
