Travis Kelce almost walked away from football.
But one surprising influence helped convince him to return for another season — Taylor Swift.

Travis Kelce Says Taylor Swift Inspired His Decision to Return to Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce revealed that his decision to continue playing in the NFL was partly inspired by his fiancée, Taylor Swift.
Kelce announced he would return to the Chiefs for his 14th NFL season, signing a one-year deal worth $12 million (up to $15 million).
While football factors played a major role, Kelce admitted Swift’s passion for her own career helped motivate him to keep going.
Swift’s Work Ethic Motivated Kelce
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Kelce explained how watching Swift continue to push herself creatively influenced his thinking about retirement.

“We share the same love for what we do,” Kelce said.
He praised Swift for constantly finding new inspiration in her music and maintaining her enthusiasm after years at the top of the industry.
“It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, finding new things to write about, new melodies,” Kelce said.
Seeing that dedication reminded him he still had more to give in football.

“Something like that definitely motivates me to say, ‘You know what, I’m not done either.’”
Kelce Plans to Marry Swift Before Training Camp
Kelce also revealed that he and Swift plan to get married before the upcoming NFL training camp, marking another major step in their high-profile relationship.
Their engagement has been one of the most talked-about celebrity pairings in recent years, blending the worlds of sports and pop music.
Still Producing at Age 36
Despite being one of the oldest tight ends in the league, Kelce remains a key part of the Chiefs offense.
Last season he led Kansas City in:
- Targets: 108
- Receptions: 76
- Receiving yards: 851
- Touchdowns: 5
- Receiving first downs: 45
Even at 36 years old, he continues to be quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ most trusted target.

Why Kelce Stayed With Kansas City
Kelce had other options in free agency and could have signed elsewhere for a larger contract.
Instead, he chose to stay with the only team he has ever played for.
Several factors influenced that decision:
- Loyalty to head coach Andy Reid
- Continuing to play with Patrick Mahomes
- The return of offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy
- Confidence in the Chiefs’ offseason moves
Kelce said he felt Kansas City still offered the best chance to compete.
“My best opportunity was playing for the Chiefs yet again,” he said.

Chiefs Reloading for Another Run
Kelce’s return comes during a busy offseason for Kansas City.
The Chiefs added several key players, including:
- Running back Kenneth Walker (reigning Super Bowl MVP)
- Safety Alohi Gilman
- Defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga
- Wide receiver Tyquan Thornton
Kelce believes the roster changes show the team is determined to bounce back.
“There’s a lot of dog mentality right now to get this thing fixed,” he said.
One More Championship Push

Kelce said he still loves the daily grind of football — practices, games and competing with teammates.
Watching Swift remain passionate about her own craft reminded him that his competitive fire hasn’t faded.
With Mahomes, Reid and a revamped roster around him, Kelce is ready for another run at a Super Bowl.
