A blockbuster NFL trade just collapsed days after it was agreed to — and now the entire league is trying to figure out what happens next.

Ravens Back Out of Maxx Crosby Trade After Agreeing to Two First-Round Picks
One of the biggest potential trades of the NFL offseason has officially fallen apart.
The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of their agreement to acquire Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby, a deal that would have sent two first-round picks to the Las Vegas Raiders.
The move came after Baltimore’s medical staff raised concerns during Crosby’s physical.

Why the Trade Was Canceled
Trades cannot become official until the new NFL league year begins, and every deal is contingent on the player passing a physical.
According to reports, the Ravens pulled out of the trade after medical experts examined Crosby’s left knee, which recently underwent meniscus repair surgery in January.
A meniscus repair generally requires a longer recovery timeline than a simple meniscus trim, which may have made Baltimore hesitant to invest such a large package.
Because of those concerns, the Ravens decided not to risk two first-round picks.

Raiders Appear Frustrated
The Raiders confirmed the cancellation but released only a short statement:
“The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of our trade agreement for Maxx Crosby. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Many around the league believe the Raiders’ front office may be frustrated with the situation.
One NFL general manager reportedly even called the situation “bulls— on Baltimore’s part,” suggesting the Ravens might have simply gotten cold feet.

Crosby’s Camp Pushes Back
Shortly after the news broke, Crosby’s agent released a statement defending his client’s health.
According to his surgeon, Crosby is ahead of schedule in his recovery and expected to participate in offseason workouts.
His agent said:
“Maxx remains on track to return during the offseason program and will continue being the dominant player he’s been the past seven seasons.”
Crosby also posted a mysterious video of himself boarding a private jet, which quickly fueled speculation across social media.
What This Means for the Raiders
The Raiders now face a complicated situation.
Before the deal collapsed, the team had already been aggressive in free agency and planned their roster with Crosby’s departure in mind.
Now Las Vegas must decide whether to:
- Keep Crosby and repair the relationship, or
- Attempt to trade him to another team
However, the Raiders may no longer receive two first-round picks, which was the original return.
Some teams are reportedly interested but may wait for the Raiders to lower their asking price.

Relationship With Raiders Still Uncertain
Crosby’s long-term future in Las Vegas is also unclear.
The star defender was reportedly upset late last season after the Raiders shut him down due to his knee injury, a decision he strongly disagreed with.
That situation created tension inside the organization.
Now the failed trade could force both sides to repair their relationship — or find a new trade partner.
What This Means for the Ravens
Baltimore also faces a major roster challenge.
The Ravens finished last season with just 30 sacks, one of the lowest totals in franchise history.
Crosby was expected to solve that problem.
Now Baltimore must look elsewhere for pass-rush help.
One possible option is free agent Trey Hendrickson, who remains unsigned despite back-to-back 17.5-sack seasons in 2023 and 2024.
Rare Move in NFL History
Trades collapsing due to physicals are rare — especially for deals involving multiple first-round picks.
The Ravens have done it before with contracts, but situations like this involving a blockbuster trade are extremely uncommon.

For now, the NFL offseason just became a lot more unpredictable.
