🚨 JUST IN: Colbert Exposes a Hollywood Power Play as Paramount Finds $108 Billion for WB but Cuts Loose The Late Show ⚡.NH
After the hostile takeover bid that Paramount recently put out for the complete acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, valued at a mind-boggling $108 billion, Stephen Colbert had some questions for the company. In a recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host asked why the talk show was being canceled when Paramount has so much money. He said:
Wow. I gotta say, if my company’s got that kind of green, I’m sure they can afford to un-cancel one of their best shows.
He was also quick to point out how more than a quarter of that hostile takeover money was coming from Wealth Funds from the Middle East, claiming Saudi Arabia had a big hand in it. As for the cancellation, Colbert believes his show came on the chopping block because its parent company is bowing to President Donald Trump.

With Netflix taking over WBD after an $82.7 billion bid, Paramount’s recent bullishness was quite surprising for many. And when we take a closer look, the involvement of President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner (via The New York Times), in siding with Netflix’s rival company in this bidding war, Colbert’s claims may not be too far off.
He made this claim shortly after it was revealed that The Late Show will not be renewed after the ongoing season, in an interview with GQ, about how Trump celebrated the cancellation on social media. Colbert said:
I can understand why people would have that reaction because CBS or the parent corporation—I’m not going to say who made that decision, because I don’t know; no one’s ever going to tell us—decided to cut a check for $16 million to the president of the United States over a lawsuit that their own lawyers, Paramount’s own lawyers, said is completely without merit.
Thus, to get on the current administration’s good side, it seems like the current heads of CBS’s parent company want to take out any roadblocks, which therefore led to the show’s cancellation being blamed on economics (via Deadline).
Why Fans Prefer Netflix Taking Over WBD Than Paramount
As stated above, many people online feel that due to Paramount’s association with President Trump and his family, along with their alleged financing from the Saudis, the company is holding some sort of hidden motive close by. In addition, certain conservative values that the Ellison family and the current administration share may lead to MAGA propaganda.

At the same time, though not the best option, Netflix is still a better bet for WBD’s acquisition since it doesn’t hold the same, seemingly restrictive values as Paramount. Moreover, they focus more on a consumer feedback-first approach, meaning they’re highly flexible with their projects.
And thus, seeing the factors on Paramount’s side, the company’s social media was hacked recently, the bio on their X was changed, where it claimed that they were Fascists by the hackers.
