Following his long-awaited knighthood ceremony earlier this month, Sir David Beckham has officially been given the honor of representing King Charles III at the 2026 Chelsea Flower Show. The soccer star is an avid gardener, as is the monarch’s daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton—who just so happened to lend her design sensibilities to the event back in 2019.

The Chelsea Flower Show is a long-running annual event hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society on the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in Chelsea, London. In his new role, Beckham will serve as an ambassador to The King’s Foundation, and will also help co-design The King’s Foundation’s garden alongside horticulturist Frances Tophill. The theme this year? “Curious Garden.”
“My love for the countryside started when I was a child visiting my grandparents,” Beckham explained in a press release, per People. “I’ve experienced how rewarding gardening can be, and that’s why I’m looking forward to working with The RHS and The King’s Foundation on their Curious Garden at the 2026 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.”

“I hope we inspire people to get outside into nature and to try something new,” the Manchester United alum added.
As for Middleton’s history with the organization, the princess played a strikingly similar role at the 2019 event when she designed a garden in accordance with the “Back to Nature” theme. The finished product featured a swing, a stream, and a treehouse.

“In recent years I have focused much of my work on the early years, and how instrumental they are for outcomes later in life,” Middleton said at the time, per People. “I believe that spending time outdoors when we are young can play a role in laying the foundations for children to become happy, healthy adults.”
