A Raiders legend just stepped into the middle of the Maxx Crosby trade stormâand he didnât hold back.
Derek Carr delivered a blunt warning that could shake the entire franchise.

Derek Carr Sounds the Alarm: Trading Maxx Crosby Could Leave Raiders With a Massive Void
As trade rumors surrounding Las Vegas Raiders superstar Maxx Crosby continue to swirl across the NFL, one voice from inside the franchiseâs history is pushing back hard.
Former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has taken a strong public stance against the idea of trading Crosby, warning that moving the star defender would create a massive hole that goes far beyond football statistics.
Speaking on the âHome Grown with David and Derek Carrâ podcast, Carr made it clear he believes the Raiders would be making a serious mistake by even considering the move.
And his reasoning wasnât subtle.

âYouâre Not Just Losing a Playerâ
Carr and Crosby spent several seasons together in Las Vegas and developed a close bond as teammates. Because of that experience, Carr says he understands something outsiders may overlook.
Crosby isnât just a defensive star.
Heâs the emotional core of the team.
âLet me explain why it is not a great idea to trade Maxx Crosby,â Carr said. âYou gotta have a quarterback. Gotta have an offensive line. Gotta have a defensive line.â

Carr went on to praise Crosby as one of the most complete defensive linemen in football â a rare combination of relentless motor, physical dominance, leadership, and passion.
According to Carr, Crosby embodies everything a franchise should want in a cornerstone player.
âHeâs disruptive, he has the motor, the aura, the leadership, the heart and soul of the team,â Carr explained. âHe just has it.â
The Leadership Factor

While Crosbyâs on-field production is undeniable, Carr believes the biggest loss would come off the field.
The Raidersâ locker room, he says, would feel the impact immediately.
âAs soon as he leaves the building, there is not only a hole in leadership,â Carr said. âThere is not only a hole in your heart and soul of your football team.â
Carr believes Crosby sets the tone for accountability and effort throughout the organization.
Without him, the Raiders could lose more than a pass rusher â they could lose the player who drives the culture.
âThere is a hole in your effort. There is a hole in your accountability,â Carr said.
The Risk of Betting on Draft Picks

Another concern Carr raised involves the uncertain nature of draft capital.
Trade discussions surrounding Crosby have reportedly centered on multiple first-round picks, a tempting offer for a team undergoing a rebuild.
But Carr cautions that draft picks are always a gamble.
âYou donât know what youâre getting with those picks,â he warned.
Even high selections can fail to produce elite talent â something every NFL team has experienced.
In contrast, Crosby is already a proven star.
A Contract That Already Shows Commitment
Carr also questioned the logic of trading Crosby after the Raiders recently rewarded him with a lucrative contract extension.
The star pass rusher signed a massive long-term deal worth over $100 million, solidifying his status as the face of the franchise.
Carr believes that decision should signal the teamâs commitment to building around him â not shipping him away.
âYou just gave it to him,â Carr said. âAre you just going to give it to him and ship him out?â
Crosby Still Wants to Stay
Despite the constant trade rumors, there is one detail often overlooked.
Crosby himself has not requested a trade.

In fact, he has consistently expressed his desire to remain with the Raiders and continue building with the franchise that drafted him.
For a young team entering a rebuilding phase, keeping a respected veteran leader like Crosby could prove invaluable.
Because as Carr warned, losing a player like him doesnât just affect the defensive line.
It affects the entire identity of the team.
And if the Raiders move forward with a trade, they may discover that some players simply canât be replaced â no matter how many draft picks are offered.
