In 2014, he was barefoot on the streets of São Paulo, painting Brazil’s colors on the pavement.
Four years later… he was wearing those same colors at the World Cup.
This is the incredible story of Gabriel Jesus. 🇧🇷⚽
From Barefoot Street Painter to Premier League Star: Gabriel Jesus’ Inspiring Journey

Before the packed stadiums, before the Premier League goals, and before the Brazil national team jersey, Gabriel Jesus was just a teenager with a paintbrush.
In the summer of 2014, as Brazil prepared to host the FIFA World Cup, the streets of São Paulo were filled with fans decorating neighborhoods in yellow and green.
Among them was 17-year-old Gabriel Jesus.
Barefoot and sweating under the hot sun in the Itaquera favela, he painted murals on cracked asphalt, celebrating the Brazilian national team that the world was watching on television.
But while everyone else was cheering the stars on screen…

Jesus was dreaming of becoming one.
Growing Up in Poverty
Gabriel Fernando de Jesus was born on April 3, 1997, in one of São Paulo’s most humble neighborhoods.
His childhood was far from easy.
His mother, Vera Lúcia, worked tirelessly as a cleaner to support Gabriel and his siblings in a single-parent household.
Money was scarce.
Football became his escape.
Like millions of Brazilian kids, he played barefoot on concrete streets, developing the quick feet and creativity that would later define his game.

Even at a young age, his talent was impossible to ignore.
The First Step Toward a Dream
At just 9 years old, Jesus joined a small community football project called Pequeninos do Meio Ambiente.
The program aimed to keep children away from crime and help them focus on education and sport.
It was there that scouts from Palmeiras, one of Brazil’s biggest clubs, noticed the skinny boy with explosive speed and natural finishing ability.
In 2010, at only 13 years old, Jesus joined the Palmeiras academy.
Leaving home and adapting to the pressures of professional training was difficult.
But his hunger to succeed pushed him forward.
A Meteoric Rise in Brazil
By 2015, Jesus made his professional debut for Palmeiras.
Then came the breakthrough season that changed everything.

In 2016, he scored 28 goals in 47 appearances, helping Palmeiras win the Brazilian league title for the first time in 22 years.
Suddenly, Europe’s biggest clubs were watching.
And one of them moved quickly.
Pep Guardiola Brings Him to Manchester City
In 2016, Manchester City secured the signing of Gabriel Jesus for around £27 million, making him one of the most expensive Brazilian teenagers ever.
He officially joined the club in January 2017.
Pep Guardiola saw something special in the young striker.

Jesus had the perfect blend of:
⚡ Speed
🎯 Finishing ability
🧠 Intelligent movement
💪 Tireless pressing
Despite early injuries and the physical demands of the Premier League, he quickly became a key player in City’s attacking system.
Winning Everything With Manchester City
During his time at Manchester City, Jesus became part of one of the most dominant teams in English football history.

His achievements with the club include:
🏆 4 Premier League titles
🏆 FA Cup
🏆 Multiple League Cups
🏆 UEFA Champions League (2023)
Though often competing for minutes alongside legends like Sergio Agüero and later Erling Haaland, Jesus consistently delivered important goals and relentless work rate.
A New Chapter at Arsenal
In 2022, seeking a bigger role, Gabriel Jesus moved to Arsenal for around £45 million.
Under Mikel Arteta, he became the focal point of Arsenal’s attack.
His first season was electric.

Despite suffering a serious knee injury, he still produced:
⚽ 11 Premier League goals
🎯 7 assists
More importantly, his pressing, movement, and link-up play transformed Arsenal’s frontline.
His chemistry with Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli helped the Gunners challenge for the Premier League title.
Never Forgetting His Roots
Despite fame and success, Gabriel Jesus has never forgotten where he came from.
He regularly returns to Itaquera, supporting local community programs and youth football projects.
He donates equipment, funds academies, and encourages young players chasing the same dream he once had.

In one interview, he reflected:
“I was that kid painting the streets, dreaming of playing for Brazil. Now I want other kids to believe their dreams can come true.”
From Street Painter to World Cup Player
The moment that made his story truly extraordinary came in 2018.
Just four years after painting Brazil’s colors on the street…
Gabriel Jesus wore the Brazil national team jersey at the World Cup in Russia.
The dream had become reality.
Today, the boy who once painted yellow and green on the pavement now wears those colors proudly on the world stage.
And his story continues to inspire millions.
