It is being reported that big bosses at CBS are considering Hoda Kotb once again to host Today show.
Radar Online reported that authorities at CBS are asking Kotb to take over for Gayle King, as the beloved daytime show Today is losing its charm.
Notably, this comes amid major changes CBS is making, as the renowned anchor John Dickerson is all set to leave the network.
Referring to Dickerson, a well-placed insider told the outlet, âLetâs be clear â he didnât quit. He was pushed. That shows that NOBODY is safe. People with big salaries and small ratings are going to be mercilessly cut â and Gayle fits the bill in both categories.â
The source went on to state that the new editor-in-chief of CBS News, Bari Weiss, is secretly forcing Kotb to join CBS Mornings again, as Kingâs contract will be expired in 2026.
âCBS is done accepting third place. Bari wants a huge name who brings warmth, credibility â and viewers. And Hoda checks every box,â the insider quipped.
Previously, the same outlet reported that Kotbâs decision to leave Today in January 2025 filled her with regret.
It is noteworthy to mention that the 61-year-old American broadcaster quit her show after 17 years because she wanted to spend more time with her daughters, Hope Catherine and Haley Joy, whom she shares with her ex-fiancĂŠ Joel Schiffman
The buzz around Kotbâs potential return comes amid a broader shake-up at CBS, including the exit of anchor John Dickerson. An insider told Radar Online, âLetâs be clear â he didnât quit. He was pushed. That shows that NOBODY is safe. People with big salaries and small ratings are going to be mercilessly cut â and Gayle fits the bill in both categories.â
CBS Newsâ new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, is reportedly pushing for Kotb to rejoin the morning lineup. Kingâs contract is set to expire in 2026, and network insiders say Weiss wants a âhuge nameâ to help the show regain momentum. âCBS is done accepting third place. Bari wants someone who brings warmth, credibility â and viewers. And Hoda checks every box,â the source added.
Kotb, 61, stepped away from Today in January 2025 after a remarkable 17-year run. She cited her desire to spend more time with her daughters, Hope Catherine and Haley Joy, from her previous relationship with ex-fiancĂŠ Joel Schiffman. Despite her decision to prioritize family, reports indicate that Kotb has occasionally expressed regret about leaving the show, which could make her receptive to a potential comeback.
CBS executives reportedly view her return as a strategic move to revitalize the networkâs morning programming and challenge competitors in the ratings war. Kotbâs experience, credibility, and longstanding connection with audiences make her a trusted and familiar face â qualities the network hopes will draw viewers back.
Fans and colleagues alike remember Kotbâs warmth and professionalism, which helped Today maintain a loyal following for nearly two decades. Her return could be seen as both a ratings play and a restoration of the showâs original spirit, providing a sense of stability amid recent personnel changes.
If negotiations proceed, Kotbâs comeback could also signal larger shifts within CBS Mornings, including potential format tweaks or renewed efforts to compete with rival programs. While nothing is official, insiders say the network is exploring the idea seriously, emphasizing that Kotbâs combination of experience, credibility, and viewer rapport makes her a near-perfect candidate.
For now, morning show watchers will have to wait and see if Hoda Kotb steps back behind the desk. One thing is clear: CBS is ready to make bold moves, and a Kotb return could be the headline-grabbing shake-up the network needs.
