Jimmy Kimmel stumbled on a surprising kinship with Marjorie Taylor Greene, praising her decision to announce her resignation from Congress.
Greene said on Friday she would be stepping down next January amid attacks from President Donald Trump, something Kimmel dealt with not too long ago when his show was abruptly canceled following comments he made about Charlie Kirk‘s murder.
‘There’s going to be one less puddle of sweat on the floor mat of the congressional gym,’ Kimmel said in his Monday night monologue, ‘Because Marjorie Taylor Greene, yet another Trump superfan, learns that loyalty to him goes only one way.’
This is a not-so-subtle reference to a portion of her statement, where she said, ‘Loyalty should be a two way street and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district’s interest.’
Kimmel played a clip of Greene’s resignation video, and he joked about the Christmas tree in the background.
‘I have to say this woman is being attacked from all sides right now — somehow she still had time to put up her Christmas tree, [it’s] not even Thanksgiving,’ he said.

‘She says Congress is beholden to the super wealthy and ignores the needs of ordinary Americans. She says her party has no plan for healthcare and that the Jeffrey Epstein files are not a hoax as the president claims they are. To which I say, “Welcome to reality Marj. We’re glad to have you here. Make yourself at home. Feel free to check out our science wing while you have a chance,”‘ he added.
Kimmel’s final zinger on the subject was that Greene leaving is ‘Congress’s loss’ and ‘Love Island’s gain’, joking that the 51-year-old could join the reality TV dating show.
Jimmy Kimmel began his monologue on Monday by mentioning Marjorie Taylor Greene’s impending resignation from Congress
Greene, a Republican from Georgia, will serve until January of next year
The Georgia lawmaker was elected to Congress in 2020, the year that Trump was defeated by Joe Biden.
She was one of the loudest voices arguing to overturn the 2020 election, repeatedly insisting, like Trump, that there was widespread fraud even though that was never substantiated.
And ever since taking office in January 2021, she has been a reliable ally to the MAGA movement.
As recently as January, she introduced a bill to expunge Trump’s impeachment that Congress brought after the January 6 Capitol riot.
But in recent months, she appeared to grow disillusioned with Trump. She has contradicted his claims that prices are going down and has also criticized his continued support for Israel’s war in Gaza, which she now calls a genocide.
Most notably, she spent months pushing for the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files, even as Trump initially resisted those efforts on Capitol Hill. Trump later flipped and signed the bill that compels Attorney General Pam Bondi to release the files within 30 days.
After Greene announced her resignation, Trump put out a post on Truth Social where he called her a ‘traitor’ and said she was leaving because she was afraid of a primary challenger.
He had previously said he was withdrawing his support of Greene and would support the candidate who ran against her.
Greene’s resignation was primarily influenced by her falling out President Donald Trump, who has now called her a ‘traitor’ multiple times
Marjorie Taylor Greene resigns from Congress

Greene said her decision to step down came because she was frustrated with the political establishment in Washington.
She also cited how she was being attacked by Trump for crusading so hard on the release of the Epstein files.
‘[Trump is] coming after me hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next weeks vote to release the Epstein files. It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level,’ she said previously.
She raged against the ‘political industrial complex’ which she claimed uses Americans as ‘pawns in an endless game of division’.
Greene said that it would be unfair for her ‘sweet little district’ to ‘endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for’ and even added that ‘Republicans will likely lose the midterms’.
She also said that she was leaving to spend more time with her family amid constant death threats she claimed she received in the wake of her clash with with the president. She said her last day would be January 5, 2026.
