Manchester City have done it before — chasing Arsenal down and stealing the title late.
But Ruben Dias says history means absolutely nothing this time.
Ruben Dias Sends Title Race Warning: Manchester City Not Relying on Past Arsenal Comebacks

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has delivered a clear message as the Premier League title race heats up: the past will not win this year’s battle.
City have famously chased down Arsenal in recent seasons, producing dramatic late surges to secure the Premier League trophy. But Dias insists those previous triumphs offer no blueprint for the current campaign.
With Arsenal currently sitting five points ahead at the top of the table, Guardiola’s side are once again chasing the Gunners as the season enters its final stretch.
Yet the Portuguese defender believes every title race writes its own story.

“I feel like no title race is the same,” Dias said in an interview with TNT Sports. “Every year there’s a new challenge, a new opponent.
“Even if it’s the same opponent, there are different ways to go past it. Every one is a new one.”
A Familiar Rivalry — But a New Battle
The comparison to past seasons is easy to make.
In 2022–23, Manchester City produced an astonishing run of 14 wins in 15 games between February and May to catch Arsenal and claim the title.
In 2023–24, Guardiola’s team didn’t lose a single Premier League game after December 6, finishing the campaign with nine consecutive wins to lift the trophy on the final day.

Now, with City once again finding form — winning their last four league matches — many observers believe the script could repeat itself.
But Dias isn’t interested in nostalgia.
For him, the focus is entirely on the next match: Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.
A Potential Title Decider Looms
While City concentrate on their immediate challenge, one fixture is already looming large.
Manchester City will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in April, in what many expect could be the defining game of the entire title race.

With City holding a game in hand, the clash could dramatically reshape the table depending on results in the coming weeks.
But Dias insists the team is not thinking that far ahead.
The mission right now is simple: keep winning.
Responding to Arsenal’s Set-Piece Debate
Arsenal have also been the subject of criticism recently for their heavy reliance on set-pieces.
The Gunners have matched the Premier League record for goals scored from corners in a single season, prompting complaints from some opponents who argue they slow down the game and exploit physical battles during dead-ball situations.

Dias, however, dismissed the debate.
For him, football constantly evolves — and successful teams simply adapt.
“The game is always changing,” he said. “From set-pieces to defending, attacking, whatever it is. You just adapt to whatever is coming at you.”
Especially when a team’s objective is simple: win, win, and win again.
A New-Look Manchester City
This title challenge comes after a major period of change at the Etihad.
Following a disappointing third-place finish in 2024–25, Manchester City underwent one of the most dramatic squad overhauls of the Guardiola era.

Several legendary players departed, including Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Kyle Walker, and Ederson.
In their place, City brought in a wave of new talent, including Antoine Semenyo, Marc Guehi, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Dias believes that transitional period ultimately strengthened the squad.
“It was a difficult season,” he admitted. “But we learned a lot from it.”
Despite their struggles, City still reached the FA Cup final and mounted a strong late push to secure Champions League qualification.

The Final Stretch Begins
Now, Manchester City are once again in the thick of the title race.
Arsenal may currently hold the advantage, but Guardiola’s team have built their reputation on relentless late-season surges.
Dias knows that reputation exists.
But he refuses to rely on it.
Because in his eyes, this title race will be decided not by history — but by what happens next.
