The Kansas City Chiefs made one of the biggest moves of the NFL offseason — and even Andy Reid wasn’t thrilled about it.

But sometimes, tough decisions are necessary to build for the future.
Andy Reid Reportedly Shared Players’ Frustration Over Trent McDuffie Trade
The Kansas City Chiefs’ blockbuster trade of All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie shocked fans and players alike — and according to reports, head coach Andy Reid felt the same way.

Kansas City traded the 25-year-old defensive star to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a significant package of draft picks:
- 2026 first-round pick
- 2026 fifth-round pick
- 2026 sixth-round pick
- 2027 third-round pick
The deal gives the Chiefs valuable draft capital as they reshape their roster for the future.
Reid Was Reportedly Disappointed

According to an ESPN report, Reid shared the disappointment felt by several Chiefs players after the move.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes reacted to the news on social media with a blunt one-word response:
“Damn.”
Other teammates — including Jaylen Watson, Xavier Worthy and Charles Omenihu — reportedly had similar reactions to losing one of the team’s defensive cornerstones.

McDuffie had become a key piece of Kansas City’s defense since being drafted in 2022, helping the franchise win two Super Bowls.
Why the Chiefs Made the Deal
Despite the emotional reaction, the trade was largely driven by long-term roster strategy.
Reports indicate that Reid and general manager Brett Veach understood the Chiefs still had several positions to address during the offseason.

Acquiring additional draft picks gives Kansas City more flexibility to:
- Add young talent
- Fill roster needs
- Manage salary cap concerns
Even though the Chiefs did not receive a player in return, the draft haul could play a major role in shaping the team’s future.
A Difficult Business Decision
While Reid reportedly shared the players’ frustration, the veteran head coach also understands the realities of roster building.
Trading away a top defender like McDuffie is never easy — but the Chiefs believe the move will help them reload and remain contenders in the coming seasons.

For now, the franchise moves forward with more draft assets, while McDuffie begins the next chapter of his career with the Los Angeles Rams.
