The Kansas City Chiefs’ blockbuster trade of All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie shocked fans and players alike — and according to reports, head coach Andy Reid felt the same way.
Kansas City traded the 25-year-old defensive star to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a significant package of draft picks:

- 2026 sixth-round pick
- 2027 third-round pick
The deal gives the Chiefs valuable draft capital as they reshape their roster for the future.
Reid Was Reportedly Disappointed
According to an ESPN report, Reid shared the disappointment felt by several Chiefs players after the move.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes reacted to the news on social media with a blunt one-word response:
“Damn.”
Other teammates — including Jaylen Watson, Xavier Worthy and Charles Omenihu — reportedly had similar reactions to losing one of the team’s defensive cornerstones.
McDuffie had become a key piece of Kansas City’s defense since being drafted in 2022, helping the franchise win two Super Bowls.
Why the Chiefs Made the Deal
Despite the emotional reaction, the trade was largely driven by long-term roster strategy.
Reports indicate that Reid and general manager Brett Veach understood the Chiefs still had several positions to address during the offseason.
