Two blockbuster NFL trades in just 24 hours have sent shockwaves across the league — and they could quietly reshape the Super Bowl race before free agency even begins.
One team gambled big for a fading star, while another sacrificed an All-Pro defender. The real question now: who just won the NFL’s boldest offseason bets?

The NFL Offseason Just Exploded: DJ Moore Lands in Buffalo While Rams Pull Off Stunning Trent McDuffie Heist
The NFL offseason barely had time to breathe before two stunning trades rocked the league and triggered intense debate among fans and analysts. In a span of just one day, the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams made aggressive moves that could redefine their championship ambitions — while the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs took equally bold steps in the opposite direction.
The biggest question now isn’t just what happened — it’s who actually came out ahead.
Bills Finally Land Their Long-Sought Receiver

For years, Buffalo has searched for a true No. 1 wide receiver to pair with superstar quarterback Josh Allen. After multiple failed attempts through drafts, free agency, and trades, the Bills finally made their move by acquiring veteran wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears.
Buffalo sent a 2026 second-round pick to Chicago and received Moore along with a fifth-round selection in return.
On paper, the deal gives Allen the playmaker he’s been missing since the team moved on from Stefon Diggs. But the cost of the move — both financially and strategically — has raised serious eyebrows.
Moore’s production has declined sharply in recent seasons. After a spectacular 1,364-yard campaign in 2023, his numbers fell dramatically to 682 yards in 2025, cutting his output in half.

Despite that drop, Buffalo is committing heavily to the veteran receiver. The Bills will owe Moore $24.5 million in 2026, another $24.5 million in 2027, and they even guaranteed $15.5 million of his 2028 salary — meaning the team could end up paying over $70 million across three seasons.
It’s a massive gamble for general manager Brandon Beane.
Still, there is one major reason Buffalo believes this bet could pay off: Josh Allen.
Moore struggled last season with inconsistent quarterback play in Chicago. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams ranked near the bottom of the league in off-target throws, which contributed to Moore’s steep drop in efficiency.

With Allen — one of the NFL’s most explosive playmakers — Moore could rediscover the elite form that once made him one of the league’s most dangerous receivers.
But if the gamble fails, Buffalo will be stuck paying premium money for a player whose best years might already be behind him.
Bears Cash Out and Rebuild
For the Chicago Bears, the move was less about talent and more about strategy.
Moore’s massive contract was about to lock the team into nearly $49 million in guaranteed money over the next two seasons. With several young weapons emerging — including Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III — Moore was no longer the centerpiece of Chicago’s offense.
Instead of carrying an expensive receiver who might only be the third option, the Bears chose flexibility.
The trade frees up significant salary cap space and gives Chicago additional draft capital. The team now holds four picks inside the top 90 of the upcoming draft — valuable ammunition for future roster moves.

Some analysts even believe those assets could help Chicago pursue a blockbuster defensive trade, possibly involving Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby.
Rams Make a Championship Push
While the Bills chased offense, the Los Angeles Rams made a defensive power move.
The Rams acquired All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a first-round pick, a fifth-round pick, a sixth-round pick, and a 2027 third-rounder.
For Los Angeles, the logic is simple: win now.
The Rams had struggled to find stability at cornerback, and McDuffie immediately becomes their most versatile defender in the secondary. Known for his ability to play both outside and in the slot, as well as his aggressive blitzing and physical tackling, McDuffie fits perfectly into the Rams’ aggressive defensive scheme.
With quarterback Matthew Stafford entering the later stage of his career, the Rams are clearly pushing their chips toward another Super Bowl run.
Why the Chiefs Let Him Go
The real surprise might be Kansas City’s decision to move on from one of its best defenders.
However, the Chiefs have a long history of avoiding large contracts for cornerbacks. Instead, the team has consistently relied on developing young defensive backs through the draft.
With quarterback Patrick Mahomes recovering from a torn ACL suffered late last season, Kansas City may also be preparing for a transitional year while reloading its roster.

The McDuffie trade gives the Chiefs multiple high-value draft picks, including another first-round selection, allowing them to rebuild depth around their core stars.
Two Trades, Two Very Different Bets
In the end, these deals highlight two very different philosophies.
The Bills and Rams are pushing aggressively toward immediate contention. Chicago and Kansas City, meanwhile, are quietly reshaping their rosters with long-term flexibility in mind.
Only time will reveal the winners.
But one thing is certain: the 2026 NFL offseason just became a lot more interesting.
