The City of Dallas and the Dallas Wings have announced a groundbreaking ceremony to announce a new state-of-the-art practice facility at Joey Georgusis Park in west Dallas/Oak Cliff will be held on Sept. 26. The project marks a significant investment in women’s professional sports and community development, giving the Wings their first permanent training home.
The facility is designed to serve both the franchise and the surrounding community. Plans include professional-grade basketball training courts and equipment, player wellness and recovery facilities, media and press accommodations, and multipurpose community spaces that will host youth programs, local athletics, and special events.
The new facility is expected to open before the 2026 WNBA season, giving the Wings a permanent base that underscores Dallas’s growing role as a hub for professional women’s basketball.
Facility to Benefit Dallas Wings Players and Community
Beyond providing elite-level training amenities, the development is designed as a neighborhood asset. Its multipurpose areas will be open for youth programming, community sports, and special events.
Officials emphasized that balancing the needs of both professional athletes and the community was central to the project’s vision.
The design reflects a long-term commitment to growth, ensuring that Dallas not only supports its professional team but also provides opportunities for local athletes to develop.
A Landmark Public-Private Partnership
The initiative highlights collaboration between the City of Dallas, the Dallas Wings, and local business and community leaders. By combining resources, the project is being positioned as both a sports landmark and a neighborhood hub.
The groundbreaking ceremony at Joey Georgusis Park will bring together city councilmembers, Wings executives, chambers of commerce, and community leaders.
For the Wings, the facility signals stability and long-term growth after years of navigating temporary practice arrangements. For residents, it offers expanded recreation spaces in a part of Dallas eager for athletic investment.
The facility’s completion is expected to reshape the Wings’ future and further cement Dallas’s reputation as a leader in women’s sports infrastructure.
