Prince William is opening up about the personal health challenges his wife, Kate Middleton, and father, King Charles, faced in a candid preview of his upcoming appearance on The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy.

In a teaser for the October 3 episode of the Apple TV+ series, the Prince of Wales, 43, reflects on the shocking health crises that shook his family, describing the period of 2023-2024 as “the hardest year I’ve ever had.”

William, who has always been known for his resilience and positive outlook, shared how his family’s health struggles changed his perspective on life. “We’ve been very lucky; we hadn’t had many illnesses in the family for a very long time,” he said, referencing his late grandparents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, who were known for their fitness, stoicism, and resilience. “But I think, when you suddenly realize that the rug, if you were, the metaphorical rug, can be pulled from under your feet quite quickly at any point,” he continued, emphasizing how quickly life can change.
The Prince spoke about the initial shock of the cancer diagnoses for both his father and wife. “You maybe think to yourself, ‘It won’t happen to us, we’ll be okay.’ Because I think everyone has a positive outlook, you’ve got to be positive,” he explained. “But when it does happen to you, then it takes you into some pretty not great places.” The royal family faced a particularly difficult 2024, with King Charles, 76, diagnosed with cancer in February and Princess Kate, 43, sharing her own cancer diagnosis in March following abdominal surgery. Kate has since completed her chemotherapy and announced she is in remission.

In another preview from the episode, William described how these personal struggles tested his strength. “Life is sent to test us and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are,” he told Levy during a conversation at a pub. His vulnerable remarks offer a rare insight into the emotional toll the health crises took on the royal family.
