It wasn’t an average shoot-around for Storm forward Gabby Williams on Wednesday.
Renowned actor and comedian Adam Sandler stopped by the team’s practice facility to shoot some hoops before hosting the Seattle leg of his stand-up comedy tour, “You’re My Best Friend,” at Climate Pledge Arena on Wednesday. Sandler, donning a Storm jersey, and Williams, in her traditional practice gear, posed for photos together after an hour of taking shots.
“It was great having Adam at the BECU Storm Center for Basketball Performance,” Sarah Alamshaw, the Storm’s vice president of public relations, said. “He’s a big basketball fan, and when he reached out about getting some shots up, we were more than happy to welcome him to the court.”
Sandler’s team had reached out to the Storm a few days before to coordinate the meet-up. The seven-time Emmy nominee is known for dropping by neighborhood pick-up games near his films’ shooting sites and tour stops. Sandler receives texts from his location scout letting him know the nearest court so he can get games in between shoots, according to ESPN.
Sandler plays pick-up multiple times a week and was even called a “damn good player” by NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal in 2010. The celebrity recently dropped by the Miami Heat practice facility to ball with center Kel’el Ware and forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. in September during the Miami stop of his stand-up tour.
The Storm weren’t the only Seattle team that got to spend time with Sandler.
The entire Kraken roster attended Sandler’s show Wednesday night, and did so in costume. Each player dressed up as characters from Sandler’s movies.
Afterward, Sandler joined the team’s Halloween celebration in the Kraken locker room, where the players gifted him a custom, signed jersey and took more pictures in costume. Rob Schneider, Sandler’s frequent co-star, was also in attendance.
