The Toronto Blue Jays are entering the 2026 season with one clear goal: finish what they started last year and win the World Series.

After falling just short in the 2025 Fall Classic, the club returns with a roster full of talent and renewed motivation. But while stars like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Kazuma Okamoto, and Dylan Cease will draw plenty of attention, one player who could quietly play a major role in Toronto’s title chase is Addison Barger.
A Breakout Season in 2025
Barger emerged as one of the biggest surprises during the Blue Jays’ 2025 campaign.
After struggling during his first extended stint in the majors the previous year, the 26-year-old took a major step forward. His 2024 season was rough:
- .197/.250/.351 slash line
- .601 OPS
- 7 home runs
- 28 RBIs
- -0.3 fWAR
- 69 wRC+
But in 2025, Barger looked like a completely different hitter.

Over 135 games, he produced:
- .243 batting average
- .454 slugging percentage
- .754 OPS
- 21 home runs
- 71 RBIs
- 2.2 fWAR
- 107 wRC+
The improvement turned him into a legitimate power threat in Toronto’s lineup.
A Historic World Series Moment

Barger’s biggest moment came during the 2025 World Series.
In Game 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, he launched a pinch-hit grand slam, marking the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history.
The dramatic blast cemented his reputation as a clutch hitter and helped propel the Blue Jays during their deep postseason run.
A More Confident Player

Barger believes that experience on baseball’s biggest stage will help him approach the 2026 season differently.
After playing under the intense pressure of the World Series, he feels much calmer heading into regular season games.
“After playing in the World Series, I don’t feel like in a spring training or a regular season game, I’ll be schitzing out like I have in the past,” Barger said. “Those games are so big that it lets you be yourself and play more free.”
Preparing for a Bigger Role

With roster changes this offseason — including the departure of Bo Bichette and missed opportunities to sign stars like Kyle Tucker — Barger is expected to take on an expanded role in the lineup.
He could see time:
- In the outfield
- At third base in a platoon role
According to FanGraphs projections, Barger could produce in 2026:
- 20 home runs
- 1.9 WAR
- 110 wRC+
If he reaches those numbers, he would remain a valuable middle-of-the-order power option.
Areas for Improvement

Despite his breakout season, Barger still has room to grow.
In 2025, he ranked near the bottom of the Blue Jays roster in:
- Strikeout rate
- Chase rate
He also led the team with 121 strikeouts.
Improving his plate discipline and getting on base more frequently will be critical if he wants to take another step forward offensively.
A Bat Toronto Needs
Barger credits his offseason preparation — especially time spent in the gym — for helping him stay ready.
For him, training isn’t just about strength.
“I like the gym a lot,” Barger said. “It helps the game, but more than anything it helps me mentally. It’s about the only therapy I do.”
If Barger can build on his 2025 breakout and refine his approach at the plate, he could become an even bigger weapon for a Blue Jays team chasing a championship.
And if Toronto is going to make another run at the World Series, Addison Barger’s bat may once again play a major role.
