Philadelphia has been not only the center of having one of two remaining undefeated teams in the NFL, but also a firestorm of drama surrounding the Eagles’ wide receiver, A.J. Brown.
After the Eagles defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-25 on Sunday, Brown went on social media to post a quote that had everyone talking about the star wide receiver expressing his frustrations. Brown finished the game with just two catches for seven yards on nine targets.
This has caused Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo to try to put out a wildfire of speculation that Brown is not happy in Philadelphia and wants out. Patullo stated that he and Brown have a good relationship, while Sirianni believed that Brown didn’t want to leave Philadelphia.
Brown refused to talk to the media and no one has heard from him since Sunday. That was until Wednesday.
Everyone finally hears from Brown for the first time
In front of his locker Wednesday, before taking questions from the media, Brown addressed his post and cleared the air. He started by taking accountability for his post.
“First off, I want to start by saying, obviously, Sunday after the game, I let my frustrations boil over,” Brown said via WIP’s Devan Kaney. “I didn’t speak to the media. I had a chance to correct my frustration, and I continue to let it boil over. That’s on me. I take full accountability for posting that. That message wasn’t directed to anyone in the building, not my coaches, not my quarterback, my GM, nobody. Like I said, I take full accountability. I have an open communication with all my coaches and with my quarterback as well. Me and my coaches, KP, Nick, we discuss weekly with trying to stay on the same page.”
Brown was next asked about what specifically was frustrating him about this season. He didn’t shy away from the fact that it’s okay to be frustrated with things.
“I think it’s normal to have frustrations because of the standard that we hold ourselves to. We have a lot of talent on offense and to be honest, defense and special teams have been lowkey carrying us and it’s just we need to clean up what we need to clean up and get on the same page in a place that we say we can and be who we are a part to be. That’s the standard that we preach. So, it’s easy to have that frustration and I think it’s fair to have that frustration. Like I said, I just can’t let that boil over.”
So far this season, Brown has caught just 14 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown through four games. He has one 100-yard game with the other three games being less than 30 yards each.
