LAS VEGAS — Aces star and three-time MVP A’ja Wilson became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 5,000 points Wednesday night during the team’s home game against the Connecticut Sun.
With a shot from the left side of the key at the 4:04 mark of the second quarter, Wilson hit yet another milestone while she continued to climb the all-time scoring ladder and became the 28th player in league history to reach the 5,000-point plateau.
Later, in the fourth quarter, Wilson passed Taj McWilliams-Franklin (5,013) to move into sole possession of 27th place on the all-time scoring list.
“It’s something that you really don’t really think about or dream of, but it’s a situation where I’ve been blessed to be in,” said the 28-year-old two-time WNBA champion, who in 2024 became the only player to ever score 1,000 points in a season. “I don’t take it for granted.”

In just her 238th game, Wilson reached the milestone four games quicker New York’s Breanna Stewart.
Wilson, Stewart and Diana Taurasi are the only players to accomplish the feat in fewer than 250 games.
“Yeah, it’s a dream,” the six-time WNBA All-Star also said. “Hopefully I can continue.”
Wilson, who came into the game ranked 26th all-time with 2,185 rebounds, said before the season she her main concern with the 2025 campaign was to “try to be better than I was last year.”
Not the easiest task, as Wilson turned in one of the most dominating seasons of all time
“So, at this point, you know you just want to maintain your stamina,” Wilson said on May 8 at media day. “You want to maintain your mental, all of that. Because the season gets hard.”
Wilson is currently ranked second in the league with 21.1 points per game, behind Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier (24.4). She also ranks second with 9.8 rebounds per contest, behind Chicago Sky star Angel Wilson (11.9).
Wilson, who leads the league with 2.6 blocks per game, is the only player in the WNBA to rank in the top five in scoring, rebounds, steals and blocks.
Aces coach Becky Hammon said Wilson has already entered the conversation as one of the greatest players of all time.

“She’s already done stuff that nobody’s done, in the sense of three MVPs, a unanimous MVP, nobody’s done that,” Hammon sad. “We got to win a few more championships, which she’s very well aware of.
“When she hangs her shoes up, we’ll be talking about the greatest ever.”
