LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A’ja Wilson has accomplished another first in her WNBA career.
The league announced that Wilson is co-Defensive Player of the Year for the 2025 season, sharing the honor with the Minnesota Lynx’s Alanna Smith.
This is the first time in WNBA history that two players were named as defensive player of the year.
Both players received 29 votes from a panel of 72 sportswriters and broadcasters.

Wilson led the league in averaging 2.3 blocks per game for the fourth straight season. She also finished third in total steals and defensive rebounds per game.
This marks the third time Wilson has been named a Defensive Player of the Year, putting her two behind the all-time record holder Tamika Catchings.
