A’ja Wilson is officially in class by herself.
The star forward of the Las Vegas Aces made WNBA history by winning her fourth MVP award. Wilson received 51 of 72 first-place votes and 21 second-place votes (657 points) from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier (534) finished second, Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas (391) third, Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray (180) fourth, and Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell (93) fifth.
Wilson’s boyfriend, Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo, and WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert presented the award.
This unprecedented achievement makes her the first player in the league’s history to win the award four times, surpassing the three-time winners, legends Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson. She’s also just the second player to win consecutive MVP awards since Cynthia Cooper accomplished the milestone in 1997 and 1998.
Cathy Engelbert, WNBA Commissioner, called Wilson “a global icon and global ambassador.”
“I’ve admired the way you’ve led. With grace, humility, humor, and just one of the greatest players to ever be in this league,” Engelbert said.
Wilson’s historic season was marked by her dominance on both ends of the court. She led the league in scoring (23.4 points per game) and blocks (2.3 blocks per game), while also finishing second in rebounding (10.2 rebounds per game). For the second consecutive season, she averaged at least 20 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal per game, a feat no other WNBA player has accomplished.
In honor of being named the 2025 Kia WNBA Most Valuable Player, Wilson will receive $15,450 and a specially designed trophy by Tiffany & Co.
