Sheinelle Jones has long been a familiar, trusted face on morning television, but in 2025, her world expanded in a profound way. As she stepped into her new role as Jenna Bush Hager’s co-host on Today, three young people have become her loudest cheerleaders and the foundation of her daily life: her children Kayin, Clara and Uche. Their support comes during a year marked by both triumph and heartbreak, shaping Jones’ journey as a mother and public figure.
Jones shares her three children with her late husband, Uche Ojeh, who passed away in May 2025 at age 45 following a sudden and aggressive battle with glioblastoma. The loss was devastating, yet Jones has continued to honor his memory by nurturing the family they built together.

The couple married in 2007 and became parents for the first time when their son Kayin was born in August 2009. Three years later, in July 2012, their family doubled in size with the arrival of twins Clara and Uche.
Balancing a demanding career with motherhood has always been one of Jones’ greatest challenges, but she has learned to structure her schedule around the moments that matter most. She has said that early-morning interviews often take place before her children wake up, allowing her to dedicate afternoons to picking them up from school. Over time, she realized that placing firm boundaries around her time helped preserve her relationship with her kids. When she’s not at the anchor desk or preparing for a segment, she tries to be fully engaged in family life—especially when she’s cheering from the sidelines at sports games or celebrating milestones.

Kayin Ojeh, born on August 27, 2009, has always been intellectually curious and quick to absorb new experiences. His mother has described him as a child who was eager to learn from the moment he started Pre-K, a trait that has only strengthened with age.
In 2021, Kayin found himself following in his mother’s footsteps when he appeared on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt: Kids Edition. There, he interviewed one of his literary heroes, Diary of a Wimpy Kid creator Jeff Kinney. Jones later shared how nervous she felt watching him take on the challenge, even though she works in journalism every day. She coached him on the basics of interviewing—listening closely, being ready with follow-up questions—and he handled the opportunity with poise.
By 2024, Kayin’s confidence extended beyond the studio. He delivered a speech at his middle school graduation, a moment that filled Jones with gratitude and pride. She shared photos from the ceremony, expressing disbelief at how quickly the years had passed: “I can’t believe it’s time for high school,” she wrote.

Later that year, Kayin experienced what he and Jones would describe as a once-in-a-lifetime moment when the two visited the White House. They met President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, and the president offered Kayin heartfelt advice: “Always, take care of your mother.” Kayin responded respectfully, a moment that moved Jones and her followers.
On July 10, 2012, Jones and Ojeh welcomed their twins, Clara and Uche. Now 13, the siblings share a deep bond while also developing their own interests and identities. When they were toddlers, Jones wrote openly about how challenging it was to learn the balance of treating them as individuals while nurturing their natural connection as twins. She worked intentionally to understand their personalities and encourage their unique strengths.
As they’ve grown older, Clara and Uche have embraced shared experiences as well as independent ones. In 2023, they joined their mom at a U.S. Open kickoff event, serving as ball kids—an assignment that thrilled them and gave Jones a proud “sports mom” moment. She joked that while most people watch a tennis match for the athletes, she was cheering loudly for the ball kids.

In 2024, Clara celebrated her 12th birthday without her twin brother for the first time, as Kayin and Uche were away at summer camp. Jones made the day special by taking Clara to get her ears pierced, reminiscing that she once had to earn straight A’s before being allowed to do the same. The moment felt like a mother-daughter rite of passage—simple, joyful, and unforgettable.
The past year has brought enormous change for Jones and her children. Losing her husband reshaped the family’s daily life and deepened the bond among the four of them. At the same time, Jones’ new role on Today has offered both a professional milestone and a sense of renewed purpose.
Her children have been present for every step of the transition—sometimes cheering from backstage, sometimes at home watching the broadcast, but always rooting for their mom. And despite her demanding schedule, Jones works to ensure that home remains her anchor.

In interviews, she has often said that when she is physically present with her kids, she wants them to feel her emotional presence too. Whether sitting in school auditoriums, encouraging them during sports events, or celebrating small daily rituals, she tries to create moments where her attention is fully theirs.
Through public triumphs and private grief, Jones’ three children—Kayin, Clara, and Uche—remain at the heart of her world. Their milestones, personalities, and resilience continue to shape her life in ways that extend far beyond the screen, grounding her even as she steps into one of the most visible jobs in morning television.
