The Texas Rangers underperformed for the second straight season in 2025.
Although the Rangers have plenty of talent throughout the organization, they haven’t been able to stay healthy and contend since winning the 2023 World Series. The Rangers followed up with a 78-84 record in 2024 and then an 81-81 record in 2025. The Rangers have already made a change by installing Skip Schumaker as the team’s manager, but don’t expect some sort of massive overhaul this offseason.
There is plenty of talent here to compete if the Rangers can stay healthy. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal specifically noted that the team isn’t expected to do anything rash and “almost certainly” won’t trade Corey Seager, Jacob deGrom, and Nathan Eovaldi.

“The Rangers almost certainly will not trade shortstop Corey Seager or right-handers Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi,” Rosenthal said. “Any team willing to take declining second baseman Marcus Semien almost certainly would require the Rangers to pay a chunk of the $72 million he is owed over the next three seasons, or accept a similarly inflated contract in return. Semien, 35, lacks a no-trade clause.”
Avoiding any deal involving Seager, deGrom, or Eovaldi would be for the best. This team is one that just won a championship a few years ago. Plus, on top of these veterans, there are young guys to be excited about as well, like Jack Leiter, Josh Jung, Evan Carter, and Wyatt Langford, among others.
If the Rangers have another down year, maybe then something should be done.
