Redwood City, California – August 28. A seemingly normal morning, dozens of people waited for the train on the Caltrain platform. The sound of iron wheels screeching on the tracks, the loudspeaker announcing the arrival of the train. But in the blink of an eye, the platform turned into a nightmare: a cold knife slashed through the air, and a man collapsed in a pool of blood, right before the eyes of dozens of helpless passengers.
The victim was Joseph Michael Carreiro, a San Mateo man. The perpetrator: Jose Gomez Bustamante, 31, a man recently released early from prison, with a violent and bloody past.
Train car or execution chamber?
A witness recounted in panic:
“He just got on, still holding his ticket. I heard a scream, then saw the blade flash. No one knew what was happening. People just ran, but there was a long trail of blood running down the platform.”
Police arrived a few minutes later, but too late to save Joseph. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” said a trembling passenger. “It was like a public execution, in front of everyone.”
The killer has a bloody past
Bustamante is not a “newbie.” Records show that he used a knife to attack a Mexican restaurant employee in 2020 – an incident also described as “unprovoked, unprovoked, insane.”
He was sentenced to six years in prison in June 2023. However, thanks to “good behavior,” participating in a “treatment” program and “earning points,” he was released after less than two years.
And then, just a few months after his release, the Redwood City train station became a bloody arena.
Conspiracy or fatal loophole?
The burning question for public opinion: Is this just a failure of the legal system, or a scenario orchestrated by a “hidden hand”?
Conspiracy: Many believe Bustamante did not act randomly. One anonymous source asserted: “No one gets released so quickly with his violent record unless someone wants him out there.” Some suspect the stabbing may be linked to the “underground purge” on the subway system, which has been plagued by sudden violence in recent years.
Social tragedy: Others believe it is the result of an overzealous “humanitarian policy” where the system believes criminals can be reformed. They see it as a social tragedy: a man who can no longer control himself is released into the community, and the result is a cruel death.
Chilling details from the scene
The surveillance camera at the platform “suddenly went dark” at the exact moment the attack occurred, according to a passenger who provided a photo from his phone. “Why did the camera fail at the crucial moment?” – this question is fueling conspiracy theories.
Witnesses said Bustamante acted “like a trained man”. He quickly pulled out a knife, stabbed cleanly, and then calmly ran away before being arrested.
A source close to the police said: “When we arrested him, his eyes were not afraid. It was as if he had just completed a mission.”
Outrage on social media
That night, the hashtag #BloodOnTheRails exploded. One angry netizen wrote:
“We are not guinea pigs for testing the policy of releasing criminals?!”
Another account floated a shocking theory:
“The recent train crashes are not random. They are a message to the government – a show of hidden power.”
The question remains
Is Bustamante just a madman let loose by the system, or a pawn in a larger bloody chessboard? Why was his file processed so “quickly and cleanly”? And why did Joseph Carreiro’s death take place in the middle of a crowded train station, in front of dozens of witnesses – as if it were a public “ritual”?
